Hey, guys.

So, I'm sure tons of you have donated to Japan disaster relief. Japan desperately needs all the help it can get. I am not comparing the lives of animals versus humans one way or the other, but the pets there need help, too... desperately.

World Vets is an organization that sends vets all over the planet to help animals in need, and now they are raising funds to help pets in Japan. Especially those on Cat Island (info here)

http://news.discovery.com/animals/japans-cat-island-survived-quake-needs-supplies-110315.html

The kitties and folks survived all right, but their buildings are devastated and both the cats and the humans need help; they have no means of getting to food right now.

Please guys, can you help?

Here's the link for World Vets so that you can check them out:
http://www.worldvets.org/

And here's the link to their disaster fund:

http://www.worldvets.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=203

If you can't donate, PLEASE could you put the word out to help on your journal, blog, facebook, etc too?

Thanks guys.

kat.

Thank you so much!

Someone on my DA journal made a very, very good point. She said:

"What some people fail to realize is how attached people will become to animals, to the point of causing themselves danger. This has always been my argument for things like food-banks and vet care for the pets of homeless individuals. "

Just like the article mentioned regarding that little old lady who refused to be rescued because (she said) the rescuers told her she couldn't take her dog with her.  So she stayed behind for three days during the earthquakes and all that, to be with her collie.  I, myself, would be just as reluctant to leave because of my cats, so MAYBE donations will help folks either be more likely to help themselves knowing their pets are safer, or help those pets who no longer have owners anymore.

It's all such chaos. There's so little I can do, but I hope this will.

So... thank you so much again.

Evacuation shelters refusing to take animals has always been one of the main reasons that people refuse to leave their homes during hurricanes (at least in Texas). They will not abandon their animals any more than they would abandon any other family member to evacuate.

Yep. And folks die because of it, but I really can't say that I blame them at all for not wanting to abandon them.

I have this concern for myself as well. If my house were to ever catch on fire, I'd probably get myself killed making sure my animals are safe. I couldn't leave my animals. They *are* my family.

Ugh, that's one of my biggest fears that rolls around in my head in the night while I'm just lying awake staring at the ceiling... the whole fire/what about my cats thing...

I have cats and fish. I honestly worry more about my fish- because so many things can break a tank. So I'm always worried- is my tank still okay. If something happens, could I get to the tank in time? etc. LUckily, most of my cats sleep with me in my room, or on my bed. But I still worry about all of my animals. Sometimes I wonder why I torture myself with having animals, so that I can think of scenarios in where they get hurt. DX

I guess that's anxiety for you.
