I've had a look, but am hoping I missed something... Is it possible to ignore a thread, without having to ignore a whole board?

I don't think so.
You can ignore users - or boards.
But one thread?

Not 100% sure, but I just checked and no, there is not such an option.

No, SMF provides options to ignore users or (through a old, no longer supported mod) boards -- but not threads.

Is there any way to change this, or does this have to do with computer stuff I wouldn't understand?

As I understand it, it would require someone writing a module...unlikely consider its age.

Don't know if the new board software will have that or not.

*fingers crossed* I imagine it might come in handy. I know there are a few threads that I might not read, but seeing them pop up at the top of the unread list still makes me a mite twitchy.

Unfortunately, I don't believe it does. It's apparently very hard to code a way for every user to ignore whatever threads they want in a way that doesn't overload a server. Every time it displayed a thread or list of threads it would have to compare each thread with the list of threads that user had ignored and not present those threads.

This, and  since each thread has it's  own ID  number  someone  would have to  input  each thread ID  into  the  code. You know that  line... "where  X is put the name/color/group etc  here" ... and I don't know about  any  of the staff here but I certainly wouldn't want to sit  in the  admin panel all day  putting  in thread ID's.

On this board I read everything, but on others I don't.  I hit 'new posts', open the ones I am interested in in new tabs, then hit 'mark all as read'.  The threads I'm not interested in will disappear until they have new posts.

It's a bit tiresome having to do this with busy threads that keep reappearing, but for the most part it keeps my list (sort of) clear.
