Have you taken your First Oath? Do you plan to if you haven't already?

Did you do a formal or informal ritual? Did you use/modify one that was already written out, or create a one specific to you?

What was your experience?

And now I'll answer my own question.  Cheesy

I did mine a couple weeks before the Equinox, and I took the First Oath rite that Dangler suggests in his book, and personalized it. I was really pleased with how it turned out - it was the first ritual I'd ever done, so I had little to no experience in writing ritual, and I really enjoyed the final result.

I was alone, so no witnesses or other human energies, and I didn't have any deep spiritual experience. I felt committed, in a practical, personal sense, but didn't have any feeling of deeper connection to the Kindreds. However, I think that's something that will probably develop over time, since I think I'm one for whom connecting through formal ritual is a learned skill. It could also be that ritual ties me to a community, but that my connection to the gods and spirits continues to come from other means.

In the last couple weeks I've felt like I started floating away, prioritizing other things and ignoring my spiritual path, but being reminded of my oath makes me feel like it's not something I can just play with when I feel like it -- it's something I've made specific commitments to. I think I'm going to make a weekly practice of revisiting this oath, to keep the spark kindled.

No, I haven't. But I've written it up, and I want to. I've got this whole spiritual tug-of-war going in me right now... too much procrastination. Generally, I procrastinate when I don't want to do something, but that's not what's happening here. I don't know whether it's a backlash against being so busy for so long recently that all I want to do is lie around the house, or what. But it's getting rather annoying, being at war with myself over things I actually want to do.

I haven't yet, I haven't felt like I'm in the right headspace for it. I do plan to write my own and recite it out in my garden - once I've finished bringing it back to life.  I don't really expect anything to happen as I think my path too is likely to be a gradual feeling out of any interested deities etc than a thunderclap of spirituality. Man, I would love a thunderclap though. Smiley

I plan to take mine on Lughnasadh.  I don't really have any special plans other than to have members of my (unoffical) grove as my witnesses and to recite the oath rather than read it from a paper.  I want to develop a ritual, though.

Is any considering using the Oath given in the text or changing it to suit your personal needs?  Is anyone using a different format (writing a poem or song, using an art piece to symbolize the Oath)?

I've been thinking of creating a few couplet verses, if nothing else to help me memorize the Oath quicker.

I have a version of the one I hope to take up on my blog. I think I may rewrite it to be simpler. To help me memorize it and to just strip down all the claptrap and focus on what I'm saying.

That's what I did. I did put it on my blog, but I seem to recall that I made that post private. It felt more personal, somehow.

I just blogged about re-Oathing myself here. I never shared my original Oath with anyone (so far the only hard copy is handwritten in my special ADF notebook), but tonight I ad-libbed a new Oath instead.
