I can do spells without material things, but sometimes when I am on the go it comforts me to have simple spell makings with me. For example hotel energy in my experience is not always good so I carry cedar with me to lightly smudge. I used to carry sage but it got mistaken for marijuana for it's smell to many times.

I was wondering if anyone else carries simple spell makings with them and if so what ?

I usually carry parchment (to write quick spells) and string (string magic) in my wallet and i have a mini spell kit of a few herbs and crystals in both my car and my locker at work (and i dont even necessarily always use physical items in my spell work.)

i always think preparation befor a spell is good, but sometimes you just need it there and then Smiley

p.s. love the sage thing, i got ask if i had been smoking marajuana once when i forgot to shower after doing a spell before going to work

The parchment and string is a good idea, I usualy write on sage or thin cedar wood chips, but my S.O. has a small wallet so he can't carry the wood chips.

I used to carry an mini alter that included a copper penny, a twig, a small exacto blade,9 metal soda caps, and seven color coded birthay candles,a quartz crystal,a small cone of inscense,  a mini alter cloth, and it all went in a little wooden box about the size of soap box.

I could set up for an entire ceremony anywhere! Of course this was many years ago before I learned how to do ceremony wiyhout the props. Wink My friends used to joke with me and say I should make a wiccan barbie and include a little alter like that. I just shrugged them off because I had several meaningful ceremonied with my alter to go.

I also have some ghost blend(salt, pepper, sage,) and a smoky quartz that fit into one of those little emergency pill containers that can go on a keychain. I mady my S.O. one too, and he's actually used it when he felt some icky energy hovering arround his truck after work. The next night the truck next to him got broken into, so after that I make him carry one with him everywhere.

that is so cool about your S.O mine supports my faith but i would never see him using a protective or blessing spell if he were given one. i like the idea about the mini altar and the exacto blade, i often wondered about what you would use as a 'mini athame.' althought in my town they are really strict about anything that could be classed as a weapon so i dont know i i could get away with it.

Unless you have a legitimate reason for having a knife of any description with you, you can get into trouble for it. Considering there was that case in Melbourne where a retail worker got fined for having her work knife on her http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/cops-fine-teen-1000-for-carrying-work-issue-box-cutters/story-fn7x8me2-1226035333999

But imo I don't see why you couldn't use something else instead, such as a letter opener.

As far as portable spell equipment goes, I tend to just use what i find. The only thing i'd consider taking with me is a small amount of some water i keep(usually collected rain water thats been left outside in the moonlight)

I've used a large needle before to substitute as an athame, and I don't think you would get in trouble for having that. A letter opener is a good idea too. I had a friend who used a piece of ceramic with leather wrapped aroun the base, it wasn't sharp or anything. If you could make a small one of those it could work. I know that there are sword and knife shaped charms to go on jewelry, but finding one might be difficult.

Now thinking about it I suppose it would be easy to repurpose a small sewing kit, like they sell at gas stations into a mini alter. the thimble could be a cauldron, the needle the athame, so on and so forth. There would also be thread for tying together herbs, or for spells useing knots.

That's a great idea, i wouldn't have thought of it.  I already have a sewing kit in my purse, though it lacks a thimble
