OK, so I worked out about the yarn size (I don't know what any of those yarn terms mean, but I think I get the relative yarn size, sort of), but please tell me matching hook to yarn is simple... Like, there's numbers on both that you need to look at and compare.

Oh, and this might be a really stupid question (told you I was a newbie): Knitting yarn and crocheting yarn, are they the same thing?
A lot of yarn has on the label a "suggested" hook size for crochet. It'll give you an idea, at least.
There are those that will say there's a difference between crochet yarn and knitting yarn. Those people are usually yarn snobs being uppity about what they're doing. Don't listen to them. Yarn is yarn. You can crochet a plastic bag if you want to - though I don't know why you would!
