And canines fighting alongside armies goes back a few thousand years.

Saw this this morning, and thought I'd post it.

Love that the handlers can talk to the dogs through microphones!

It's amazing how incredibly smart dogs are.

I often wonder how they make it through a day what with all the competing smells.

Even dogs without the olfactory senses that some breeds have are amazing.

I was quite impressed when I learned the kids at the barn taught the boxer (who I had not thought incredibly smart) to SHUT THE DOOR after herself. She opens it by jumping up and pushing down on the handle, since the door opens inward. This was a problem when she kept opening the door during the middle of the winter. But now you just say, "Maya, shut the door!" and she'll go around behind it and jump up and push it shut!

That is awesome! I've always wanted to put armor on my dog... unfortunately, she's not well-trained enough for me to be able to give her commands over a microphone. Still, I could have so much fun with a camera on that dog's back. Could be useful since she's trained to go to certain windows in my car on command. Use my dog to check my blind spot!
