I'm doing some research for my folklore class, and I'm planning a paper titled "Secret Names: A Fairy Tale Theme in Modern Paganism". I'm looking for pagans, witches, and overall new-agers who actively use (or have used )the concept of magical names in their lives. It would help me a lot if you you could answer some questions. Thank you.

1. Fist Name (If you feel comfortable saying it it):
2. Religion/Spirtuality:
3. When do you use your magical name?
4. What is the purpose of a magical name? Why not use your real name?:
5. Modern Wiccan Lore says a magical name is personal, and shouldn't be shared. Do you agree with this? If yes what would happen if your magical name was known by others?

In addition to reading the link to our research guidelines that Shadow just posted, you need to be aware that many institutions do not allow students to go out and conduct these types of surveys without clearance from their university research ethics board.  You did not seek permission to conduct this research from the hosts of The Cauldron, which puts you in violation of the rules of this forum; even if your university ethics board does not require undergraduate researchers to be overseen by them, you are still, by refusing to respect our community rules and norms, in violation of the spirit of ethical research.

Oh. I didn't know that.
So the rules say that "you must obtain permission first". But it also says "to avoid getting permission by sending PMs or Emails to members from the board". So how do I get permission? Also, my paper is simply a humanities paper, we can do forum-like interviews, as long as we cite them.

That "no PMs" thing is to prevent people from trying to do an end-run around the rules by asking their survey questions, etc. over PM rather than on the board.  You MUST apply to the hosts for permission to do research of any kind on the board, as was stated in the rules you agreed to when you signed up.

Whoever knew it would be able to take me over at any time and make me do horrible, unnatural, things (for which I would, of course, have absolutely no responsibility, since the 'controlled' actions would all obviously be mean things I myself am totally incapable of doing or even thinking about constantly)

I'd love to let people know, but I don't think it's a good idea.  We live in an oppressive society that discriminates against the My Little Pagan movement.

Aw, where do you get sacrifice-able virgins from nowadays?
