Hey, all!

So I was just wondering... It looks like I might be the only one here who isn't a member of ADF, and a lot of the conversations have been ADF-specific so far. I wasn't really involved in the initiative that led to this SIG being formed, I just saw the "Neo-Druidry" title and wanted to check it out. Is this mostly a group for people working with ADF? Are there folks here who aren't members of ADF but still consider themselves in line with "Neo-Druidry" in one way or another?

If this was meant mostly to be a place for TC members to talk about their ADF work, that's totally cool! Smiley I don't want to step on any toes, but I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up with the references to ADF-only materials and such, so I can just quietly sidle my way back out whistling nonchalantly. Wink

I think it's just that most of the people involved in Neo-Druidry here happen to be affilliated with ADF in some way.  That's not meant to be the sole focus of the SIG.

I, for one, would love to see a more expanded discussion about Neo-Druidry.

This, is, I think the universal case.

That said, if you're feeling lost/left out/confused about some ADF terms etc feel free to ask for clarification. I'm not sure that there's really anything 'oath-bound' etc in regards to the ADF, at least not that I've come across.

All that said, I too would be very interested in being exposed to other perspectives/organizations/druids.

I think that has more to do with there being more ADF members than OBOD, etc, so that's where the focus has been. IIRC the conversation held prior to the Neo-Druidry SIG's creation, we very much wanted to make it an open Neo-Druidry discussion area. Perhaps we should focus on broader druidry questions and not just those about a specific group, and perhaps we should also do better in contributing to/creating threads about the other groups as well.

Don't get me wrong, I've really enjoyed reading about the ADF stuff! It's been an on-going debate with myself over the past three or four years whether or not I should join myself, especially since they have a thriving, active Grove here in my city. So being able to learn more from people who are involved with them has been very helpful and interesting! Smiley

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crashing the party. Wink

Nothing in particular. Smiley Just was reading through the Roll Call/Introduction threads and saw lots of ADF folks.

Actually... I would be interested in hearing, for those of you who belong to both ADF and another organization, if you have any thoughts on how ADF compares to other groups. My main hesitancy in joining has been some differences of opinion on some of ADF's theological concepts - in your experience, do issues of theology play a big role, or is there a much looser approach to it? I guess what I'm asking is how flexible is ADF when it comes to their polytheology? I'm a kind of "mystic" polytheist, but definitely don't subscribe to the approach that I've seen represented in Bonewits' writings.

Should this be a new thread? Well, I'll leave it here for now. Smiley

I'd love to answer in depth but I'm such an ADF noob I'm still wrapping my head around some of the core stuff. Similarly I haven't delved too deeply in to the OBOD material (though I can say that OBOD is idk more 'fluff' than ADF? Not bad fluff just less strictly historical/academic and they don't mind drawing from the revivalist druids) as I haven't progressed in it too far and a lot of it isn't meant to be shared publicly anywa.

Anyone else with more experience want to take a shot?

Also, OBOD is more like Masons 'secret' than actually oathbound, 'least as far as I've gone. The concern seems to be (aside from legitimate concerns about the material being publicly published and damaging revenue to the org) that prospective students would/will progress too quickly or stumble ahead and get confused etc. IDK how valid it is but that's what I've picked up.

Hey, all!

It's not meant to be an ADF focus, even though most of the participants have been or are members of that group.  I think what we are waiting for is other people to make threads based on other points-of-view.

Please do post if you have an idea for a thread. I encourage it. Grin
