Well its flu season here, and while I've been sniffling and sneezing I got to thinking of home remedies.
So what are your favorite home remedies for the flu and whatever else.

Personally i'm a fan of honeyed herbal tea, either mint or a citrus blend.

Green tea with lemon does wonders for making me feel better. Anything warm and liquidy - soup, tea, coffee - is great. Also, strangely enough, hot and spicy food. I think it's because it clears out my sinuses and gets all that gunk moving. (Although snacking on jalapeƱos with a fever isn't quite what I'd recommend.)

I have scattered around my apartment several simmering pots with EOs in them.  I have something like lavender, eucalyptus and tea tree. And sometimes lemon (it's good to fight the flu and I LOVE the smell of it.)  Plus I drink an herbal tea for fighting flu (can't think of the name right off hand) and make sure to keep up on my vitimans.

This might be a silly question, but what do you mean by  "EOs" ?

Essential Oils, at a guess.

That seems pretty obvious now that you mention it  Tongue I'm not the greatest at shorthand though.

Everything seems obvious once you know what it is. I've always heard it called 20-20 hindsight.

I make my own cleaning supplies with vinegar, alcohol, and water (sometimes other ingredients depending on what I'm cleaning) and because white vinegar has a strong smell I'll sometimes add an essential oil to the cleaner or alternately dilute a favorite like lavender etc in water and spritz the area after cleaning. Helps chase away the lingering vinegar scent.

For tea I love throat coat when I'm getting sick. I've seen a few brands with variations on it (including organic), some are heavily anise flavored which I'm not a fan of but there's an alternate that doesn't have anise and works just as well. I also really like red raspberry tea, I've read that it's good for problems with your period but I really enjoy the flavor.

I make a balm out of beeswax, tea tree oil and almond oil for my hands after gardening etc. Not sure if works any better than store-bought but it's cheaper, I know whats in it and I can make as much or as little as I need.

It'd be great to collect recipes for this thread in general. I'm really getting into the DIY stuff and would love to try my hand. Smiley

Raw garlic is an excellent remedy for colds and the flu. You could finely chop a few cloves and add then to a salad or a sandwich.
