Jeff and I had the pleasure of attending the (ADF) Sassafras Grove's summer solstice ritual this morning - up at 3:30 AM to drive to a lovely park outside of the city and, wouldn't you know it, thunderstorms and rain the whole morning! Still, it was a moving, beautiful ritual beneath a park pavilion - and though we couldn't climb the Tor to see the sunrise itself for all the rain, the crows announced the sunrise right on cue in any case and there was a glimpse of golden light to be seen on the underbellies of the clouds on the horizon. Afterwards, we had breakfast with some of the members of the Grove at a local diner, which for us (being the extreme introverts that we are) was both nerve-wracking and fun. Wink

I was wandering what others are doing to celebrate the solstice this week? Anyone up with the sun this morning?

(Apparently, this is the first rainy summer solstice morning Sassafras Grove has seen in ten years! Ah, well - we'll definitely be attending future rituals with them, so maybe we'll have better luck next year. Wink)

Our summer solstice celebration in my family is an afternoon/evening affair. We eat, drink, and be merry until sundown, and "send" the sun back to the Southern Hemisphere in style. The celebration is all about sharing, extended inter-dependence and community, and only taking our fair part of what the world has.
