I'm sorry to hear  Sad Our cats are battling with CRF as well. We found this site very helpful.
http://www.felinecrf.org/

Our Brandy had a "crash", where we thought it was the end. We took him to the vet where he got his fluid injections, but the vet said he was in a bad way. He's inseparable from his brother, so we thought we'd bring him home, and if need be have the vet do a house call, but he perked up, and is acting his old self. They can't recover, so it's hard to get your hopes up, but they could still live on happily for a while yet. The hard thing is that they can't even diagnose CRF until they only have a third of their kidneys left. I'd recommend a special diet, and giving her phosphate binders, and protease enzymes.

I'm pulling for her. It's hard to cope with when they take up such a big spot in our hearts.

I don't know exactly what she has but the vet is giving her fluid treatments so it sounds like the same thing. She's not optimistic that Muffin will pull through though. I wish we had realized she was sick earlier but she never seemed to be in any pain, she just suddenly lost weight and then all of a sudden she was very weak and peeing in odd places.

Don't blame yourself, cats are notorious for hiding illness and injury. Hoping for the best outcome for you all *hugs*

It's hard to really feel anything right now, I just hope she's not in pain and I hope that if she has to be put to sleep she goes in comfort and peace.

This is the best page ever.
I roamed on it for days, when my cat was diagnosed.

A friends cat died last week, after living literally years with kidney problems and heart problems.
So it really does not need to be the end.

Muffin died peacefully at the vet this morning. She was tired but seemed calm and relaxed. I think she was happy that we were there with her.

I'm going out into the woods later today with a friend (not pagan himself, but spiritually-minded) and we're going to hike a little and make a fire and cook some food and hang out...I was just thinking it would be nice to do a simple ritual to honor Muffin and say goodbye. I've got some cat treats that were the last food that she was really eating and enjoying before she went to the animal hospital, so I was thinking of making an offering of those and burning them in the fire. Has anyone else ever done a ritual to honor a deceased animal, and do you have any suggestions for what else I might do? This is the first time I've lost a pet so I don't have any experience doing this kind of thing.

It does come on quickly Sad Our Brandy was wrecking about the house with his brother, and all of a sudden started throwing up nothing but little spots of white foam, a tell tale sign.

I'm sorry to hear about Muffin, and will continue pulling for Otter.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've lost many a pet in my time (I grew up with cats on the family farm), and it never gets any easier.

What you've outlined here sounds very similar to what I've done previously. I think it's important to do *something* for them--they're fur-children, after all, aren't they. {{{ Otter }}}

A thousand of milk to drink, a thousand of mice to chase an eat, a thousand of warm cuddles, a thousand of every good thing. May she ascend.

{{{{Otter and Muffin}}}} I'm so sorry for your loss, Otter. But she went peacefully and painlessly, and surrounded by the people who loved her in this life.
