A judge appointed by Bush upheld Obama's health care law.  First time a judge has gone against the party that appointed him with regards to the health care law.

There is sort of a caveat with the decision. It only upholds the law from being struck down by facial challenge.  In other words it's sort of like standing.  Since the group sueing to have the law blocked have not suffered any harm, the law is still OK. 

The ruling left open the option for individuals or groups of specific individuals to sue once the requirement to buy insurance is actually in place.  Once a person is forced to buy medical insurance by the Federal govt, they'd have the ability to sue.

Imagine if some of the 1990s internet child protection bills could not be challenged in court until the govt charged an individual with actually breaking the law. This mandate case isn't as touchy since it doesn't have a chilling effect on a constitionally protected right.

You know? I've really never seen anything that seriously backs that statement up. I've pretty much learned to discount it as scaremongering from the right. It's not quite as bad as "guvmint control" or that whole "death panels"  BS, but it runs a close second.

I don't know if could find data either way. 

For big companies that already offer some decent coverage, it's probably not an issue. Health care is more expensive than any govt mandated minium or more comprehensive than the govt minimum

I could point to the number of companies (then have to do the research for a pattern) that have gotten waivers from some of the requirements, but I don't think that would really be proof.

I don't think you could really. This whole thing apparently got started when the GOP House Leadership started quoting something from a CBO report (there's an Ezra Klein article out there that talks about this, but I know I've seen rebuttals to this ridiculous position in a lot of places). The problem was, that wasn't what the report said, but they've been beating this horse ever since. Then again, that should come as no surprise considering their proclivity for lying about what something says.

The other thing, and this is from a strictly personal standpoint, if any of these fine gentlemen ever spent time unemployed and with a catastrophic illness, I suspect they'd have less concern for their corporate friends and a bit more for people who have had to face that sort of thing.
