Yeah, we all do. Especially when life grabs you by the sleeve and drags you through the bushes to chase some bunny they found. Hehe.

How come you used the word 'converted'? Just curious. Especially when it says in your religion slot "Wiccan". Just intrigues me greatly. If you want to answer, that is. You dont have to.

Out of curiosity, why do you find it odd?

Its probably just me, but I've always found the word 'converted' to have connotations to having been forced to a religion. Or something akin to that. Its always just rubbed me the wrong way.

I know its probably just me and my weird brain... but the word. Its like rubbing your hand against the grain of a rough piece of wood. I figure maybe in time I'll get rid of those connotations.

To me, "converted" doesn't have the connotations of being forced to adopt religion (although I do understand that the word carries a lot of baggage for some people), but I do think I understand part of why it rubs you the wrong way.

I don't feel like I *converted* from Methodism to anything, let alone my current CR-esque path.  Instead, I feel like I left something someone else had chosed for me but that didn't fit, and moved to something that fits me.

Yes, that's a *conversion* in the sense that it's a change, but it's a change that is more like coming back home, rather than laterally from one thing to another similar thing.

I don't think that made any sense.

I might have had too much to drink, celebrating tonight.  Sorry.   Embarrassed

Other than you saying you went out drinking and celebrating, I'm fine. (I WANT OUT OF THIS HOUSE! D= )

It did make sense to me. I guess its just because I still see "convert" in a sort of.. outwardly role. Not something internal.

Gah. The words are there! I just can't make them come out. Smiley

Ah, OK.  Thanks.  I admit I don't tend to use the word myself to refer to my own religious journey, although I don't know why.  The closest I can come is that maybe it sounds too...  sudden?  Does that make sense?  It sounds like one big event whereas my path has wound around all over the place to get me from Christianity to neo-Wicca to...  whatever...  to here.  But, as you say, that's probably just me being weird too.  Cheesy

The closest I can come is that maybe it sounds too...  sudden?

That's why the word "convert" or "converted" bothers me--it makes it seem like religion and faith are just something that can change just like that, with no resultant scars from the sudden changing of a person's lifelong held beliefs/programming. It takes time to change one's beliefs--like you said, there's no one "event", it's a path. A journey.

I've had drifting experiences, exploration experiences, nudge experiences, "Hm, maybe I should study that further" experiences, and a bona fide conversion experience.  It's interesting to poke at the differences, sometimes, in that sort of abstract geekoutabout way.
