I wonder what this does for the faiths that were in communion with each other.

well, so much for the ecumenical, but really, most conservative churches believe a version of this.  That's one of the things behind closed communion.

posted just as heartshadow posted,

question, are there any churches that the catholic church was in communion with?

Apparently he missed the apostrophe s that followed God and the subsequent "representative on Earth" portion of the job description.  (slinks away humming "God Thinks"...)

Benedict probably set attempts to reunify the major Christians branches back 50 or 100 years. I this will just make the Orthodox or Anglican churches less interested in making the effort to even talk.

He probably set them farther back than just 100 years ago.  I'm thinking more along the lines of back to about the time Henry VIII broke from the Catholic church and created the Anglican church.

Sounds like they are gearing up for a Holy War.  I have always sensed great evil from the Vatican.

Even when JP I or JP II was there? I doubt either man had an evil bone in his body.

This is sorta OT but I liked John Paul II and I'm not even Catholic!  Benedict, on the other hand, I can't stand!

Nu-uh, nope-nope, no way, no how!

I feel the same way. When I saw the picture of Benedict in the paper after he was chosen I got chills up and down my spine.

Except for a couple of Cardinals from third world countries who just seemed wacky, Ratzinger was probably the worst choice the College of Cardinals could have made from among the major candidates. IMHO. I couldn't stand him as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (what used to be called the "Inquisition") and I think he makes about as good a Pope as Putin (former KGB) makes a President.
