Do you have a word count limit?

Not really -- other than it is a newsletter, not a book. Smiley

And if a piece is really long, we can talk about splitting it into a series of articles.

I'll see what I can do. I have to put something together for my Star Trek group's newsletter in the next couple days, so I'll be in a writing frame of mind anyhow. I'd really like to put my seeker advice together in an essay.

That sounds great!  When you have a draft ready, please email it to me at moonivy53@gmail.com.  If possible, please attach it as a Word document.  If you don't have Word or can't attach it for some reason, just put it in the body of the email and I'll convert it.

Thanks.

Sure, I can do that. Smiley

Shad, I've been reading the threads about your tarot ideas.  They're very interesting, and I think they'll make a good series for the newsletter.

I'm wondering, though, if you might want to revise them, rather than having me just copy them from your posts.  The discussion in the threads seems to be sparking some ideas for you that you might want to incorporate into the descriptions.  So it might be better to put them in the newsletter after you have a chance to add or change whatever you want to?

Let me know what you want to do.

Don't feel bad.  Once you start getting into serious study (and that's what inevitably happens when people who are making their own decks are properly conscientious about it, not just copying other decks or lining up pretty pictures) it does get overwhelming.  The cards are a system, with every card having some kind of relationship with every other card, and this starts coming out as soon as you start examining the symbolism, the iconography, the stories, the colours, etc. etc. etc.

You'll never get everything about any one card into one nice tidy essay, which is what makes most books dealing with card meanings feel incomplete once your own understanding is past the basics.  You've got a good start on giving a simple overview for each card, and you're leaving it open for questions and additions.  You're getting the building blocks of the system down, and not trying to prevent onlookers from making their own leaps, which is also inevitable.

My advice is just tidy up the essays as you go, make them consistent with each other as to how much image description, how much back-story, and how much interpretative guidance you put in for each.  Readers will take it from there.  Essay readers, not just card readers. Cheesy

My dream is a proper tarot encyclopedia, with a volume for every trump, another for each set of pips (aces, twos, threes, etc.), another for the court cards, suit overviews, common relationships, etc.  It would be abut 40-50 volumes and I can think of exactly three people I know who would want it in their house. Cheesy

And it really doesn't help that I'm throwing a lot of traditional symbology out the window because it doesn't fit what I'm doing - I want the meaning, but not the symbols.

*sigh*

One of these days I'll actually do something EASY ... Cheesy  (then I'll complicate it.  Maybe I'll do that encyclopedia next.  .... maybe not. Cheesy )

Hi, TC-mates.

This is my periodic reminder that we're always looking for contributions for TC's electronic newsletter, Cauldron and Candle

Please consider submitting your writing.  Relevant topics and diversity of writers really helps keep the newsletter interesting.

Submissions can be poetry, articles, or any other type of writing appropriate to the newsletter's format and subject matter.  Subjects can include divination techniques, rituals/celebrations, deities, aspects of your particular path, or anything else that would be interesting to TC's members.

Directions for submitting material appear in this thread several times.  Just scroll back through the posts and you'll find it.

In a nutshell, if you want to submit something, email it to me at moonivy53@gmail.com

You can send it in the body of the email or as a Word format attachment.  I will assess the submission's appropriateness and edit for typos, clarity, etc. -- I will not change any substance of the article.  Then I'll send it to Randall, who has the final say on what goes into the newsletter and when it will appear.  If Randall wants to use it, I'll let you know and inform you of any edits I've made.

If you have questions, post here, PM me, or email me.

Thanks!

Hi, TC.

I'm bumping this thread in the hopes that some of our newer members might be interested in submitting an article or two to TC's e-newsletter.  (Older members are also welcome, of course, but you've probably seen this announcement several times, if you've been here a while.   Cheesy  )

I will most likely be attending my first Shamanic ceremony at the beginning of September. Would you be interested in a piece about my experiences as a first-time participant?
