hey everyone,

The one spell I really would have liked to watch in action, I couldn't see because I was sitting at home and casting it on a car that was in a parking lot 20 miles away.

I think most spells and magic take too long to manifest to have something visible going on the whole time. But this time the effects were apparent within about 30 minutes. I was using the element of fire to melt the ice from a family member's car before he drove it home on icy roads. When he and his coworkers came out of the plant at midnight they thought his car had caught fire because all the other cars were coated in ice and his was sitting in a puddle of water with no ice on it at all.

Well, I want to say that you probably shouldn't expect anything spectacular to happen when spellcasting. I'll try to keep my personal opinions on the nature of magick to myself, but the fact is, physically seeing anything unusual during the ritual is highly unlikely. The next day, when events begin to bend to your will, that's the amazing part. But there won't be any whizz-bang effects in circle. It can be a very dream-like experience sometimes, chanting over candles in the dark - that's how it is for me, when I do it alone - but all in all, any apparitions you encounter will only be in your mind's eye. (Which isn't to say that isn't real.)

Yes, sometimes, some people do see/hear/experience unusual things. I've heard my share of stories, and I'm not one to tell somewhat what they saw or heard. But this is the exception to the rule. The household appliances won't go berserk and the windows won't shatter. Wink

What you can expect, perhaps, is to feel a little different during and after. Or not. Everyone experiences something different. Some people feel warm, or energetic, or tired, or loopy - which is why many people recommend eating afterward, to get your feet back on the ground. But that's about it, in most cases.

Thessaly: Did she answer you?
Foxglove: Well, it felt good at the time. Empowering.
Thessaly: Hmph.

hey everyone,

im entirely new to wicca, but im trying to learn as much about it as possible. this may seem like a stupid question, but when you (experienced witches) perform a powerful spell, does the kind of stuff the movies show (glowing light, sparkling wind, ect.) acutally happen? im just wondering. ive never performed an actual spell before, so ide like to know.

thanks

If you are truly focussing and have your eyes closed, I believe you WILL see some theatrics!  but only in your minds eye.  Otheres that might be standing around, will probably see nothing, but any thing can happen with enough energy put into it!

There's no such thing as a stupid question; all of us have to start somewhere.  Wink

I don't consider myself either wiccan or witch, but I do use magick and spellwork regularly.  The Hollywood version is just that.  The closest I've come in years of practice to anything resembling a special effect is a sudden, drastic drop in air temperature in the midst of working a spell with another person.  This could have a dozen explanations other than the spell itself, however.

That being said, I'd encourage you to stick with it, even if there is no sparkling or glowing invovled.  My thought is that I'd rather have the energy work toward manifesting the goal of the spell  rather than wasted on a special effects show.  Hope that helps!

I've seen some definite things happen physically, and a good friend of mine also did, accidentally, once.  I cast a spell because I wanted it to snow on my birthday 3 years ago- it did.  Not a lot, but enough to cancel a lot of people having to go to work Smiley  My friend was really angry at a boyfriend and accidentally raised a storm that ran him off the road.  Luckily he wasn't hurt, but it scared her into being more careful from then on.  I also know that during outside rituals, my friends and I have been able to create our own "heating" or "airconditioning" when it was either cold or hot.  Inside our circle was very comfortable but when we let it down the actual temperature would return.  I think that we may build up a shield to not see more things happen because maybe we're afraid, or maybe we still have doubts.  I know that I have a block that I purposefully put up so that I don't physically see spirits.  I sense them and I hear them, but I have no desire whatsoever to see them with my physical eyes.

Nothing is impossible.  Most things are extremely improbable.

I forget who said that.  Maybe it was me.
