Hey all-
I know I'm new here, but my family and I could really use some help.  The short story is that my brother has gotten himself into some legal trouble.  He's a good kid who is basically in the wrong relationship at the wrong time.  She called the cops because she was angry at him and accused him of domestic abuse.  He would never do that.  She even called to appologize to him and us because she knew she lied to the police.  However he's still in trouble legally.  We've pretty much exhausted all our physical means of helping him.  His legal fees are steep and his options are pretty limited.  Any good thoughts or workings on all of our behalves will be greatly appreciated.  He desperately needs to be free from his current situation.  We all need to learn to forgive and to stop being angry because really it doesn't serve a purpose at this time.  I've been working on this alone magically for several months now and it's wearing me out.

Thank you all-

There's got to be a reason, though sometimes I think the gods just wanted a good laugh.

Can't his partner drop the charges?

If anal prolapse teaches us anything, it's that it is what is inside that counts.

Can't his partner drop the charges?

The way it usually works in domestic situations is the charges are laid by the police rather than the victim.  This was started because in too many cases the victim would be threatened or intimidated into dropping them.  Once the complaint is made, and the investigation done, the police lay them and only the courts can dismiss them.

A lot more spousal abuse charges 'stick' this way, but it does cause problems when the report is false or malicious.
