...In what other famous works (books, movies, art, opera, whatever) do curses figure prominently?

The Polar Bear King is a movie I loved as a kid, that was based on East of the Sun, West of the Moon, where a prince/king is cursed to be a bear during the day and no one can look upon him in his human form at night, yadda yadda. I don't know who properly curses him though in the original story- in the movie there was a witch.
