Perhaps the most common use of Craft for myself is in school.  On a test, I draw a special sigil I created and saw a tiny incantation, which I remember by heart.  The purpose of it is to bring out the knowledge I have in the recesses of my mind so that I may answer a question that calls for such information.

Has anyone else used this?  Do you find it ethical?

I see nothing wrong with it, being a simple prayer.

Each day before school, I ask my Gods and ancestors to lend me their strength, wisdom, and truth as I go forth into the day. That's about it. For tests, I just study =).

Going by your description, it's not a prayer, it's quite straightforwardly a spell.  But that has nothing to do with ethics.

I see no ethical problem at all; it's a spell on yourself (so there's no question at all that the subject of it consents!), and it's not a substitute for doing the work, but a way to more effectively make use of the results of the work.

What made you wonder about its ethicality?

Oh, just that sometimes I find it hard to distinguish what is and isn't ethical.

I was going to cast a spell to repel a particularly nasty person from myself, and somebody said it wasn't ethical because it was manipulating them(even though it wouldn't HURT them).  So I don't understand what is and isn't sometimes.

Eventually it will become your choice as to whether or not it is ethical. Not that you can't take advice from others, but in the end it is your choice. You just need lots of information before doing so.

I think it's ethical. As long as you don't write the answer on your hand or look at someone else's test, I think it's ethical to do whatever you can to improve your score (without hurting anyone of course). I think you should be allowed to use every resource that's available to you, including magic.

I see nothing wrong with it: I do pictoral sigils for this task.  Meh, if it works, do it.   Smiley

Do you find it ethical?

I see nothing wrong with it, being a simple prayer.

As someone else pointed out above, that is not a prayer; it is a spell. Simple guideline: prayer = asking; spell = deciding and doing.

I do not believe it is unethical. It is not a way to cheat so much as a way to help you use what you've already got. In other words, it goes in the same category as getting a good night's sleep, eating a nutritious breakfast, and staying calm and positive.

As long as you're not doing something like manipulating how they feel you should be fine. For example, I usually just make my aura feel intimidating or imagine myself swallowed up in shadows so that they don't notice me.
