As some of you may know (from my posting in the Hobbies area), I'm a blacksmith and happen to be involved Ancient Celtic Re-enactment.

Recently, 7 of our group (Ancient Celtic Clans) went on trek into the Adirondack mountains using only gear that would have been used by the Celts in 450BCE.

It was an exhausting but fantastic time.  We even took 3 kids along and they enjoyed it too!

It looks like y'all had a great time. I haven't done anything like that since I was in Scouts a long time ago -- but out equipment was much more modern -- light aluminum pack frames and all.

Heh, yes and in fact a Scout leader had once asked one of our members (DJ of clan McClaren) to teach his Scouts how to start a fire with flint and steel.

Plans are certainly underway to make next year even better!

I can see that as it is a heck of a lot harder to do (without practice) than books make it sound like. I doubt I could do it any more, at least not very quickly.

How cool! Looks like a fun time. That's a very pretty area too. I only live a couple hours from there myself.

Heh! I remember that last time I went up to the Adirondack's! GOT LOST...  the locals thought it incredibly funny to give us 'circling' directions...  we eventually found the interstate close to dark. I must say the 'northern kelties' have their fun and folklore up there but I'm sticking to my VA/WV slopes for trekkin' around!  Grin
