Sarah,

Just a quick note...  Please don't forget to use the quote/reply function and leave the quote code in when replying to a post.  The quotes and the links that the code provides are important in helping the rest of us follow the conversation.  (You can see our full quoting policy here.)

Thanks!

Sorry about that, I must have been in a rush. I have modified my post and corrected the problem.

Apologies,

Cleansing, you mean there are people who do that?  Well, okay, seriously, I do occasionally cleanse when it is something that just feels BAD.  I do try to keep my altar/workspace clean, but that is physically.  I am of the philosophy that anything that I use will eventually adapt to my vibrations.

I am an animist, so if it doesnt want me to work with it, I fully expect it to tell me so Wink

Also, if I use a crystal for say, healing purposes, and feel it should be cleansed afterward, I just put it in a windowsill mainly and let it get sunlight.  Or perhaps I take a bath with it  Cheesy

Gina, it is a good idea immediately after using tools in a rite to at least clean them physically and store them properly. I cleanse my tools of psychic and magic energies as well any time they feel tainted to me. I don't like leaving a lot of residual energies on things unless I'm storing for spell work because the way I was taught (fam trad stuff) it can attract the wrong sort of energies to later workings. depending on what the tool is made of cleansing can include any of these things- visualizing it being cleansed while blowing on it, or smudging with sage (tarot and books) the sun and moon cleansing in the window, running water, or burying in sand overnight (seldom because if its that bad I usually don't want to keep it anymore) or passing through a candle flame )some stones and athames) most Wiccan publications will include something on cleansing, the whys and how tos for newbies. Hi everybody,

I've read all posts through and do agree on almost all of them. I liked especially White Ravens short form of different cleansing methods.

I understood, that most people think that cleansing should take away bad energy or dirt.

On phisically cleansing I agree on spiritually cleansing, I see it a little bit different:

Magic is all about focusing energy - the energy of everything used by doing magic should flow the same rhytm, the same length, the same direction.

For everything that comes directly from nature, like stones, wood, herbs, I believe, the circle is enough to make run the energy the way mine is running.

If I get a gift from a special friend I know well and respect a lot, I might want his energy to be added to mine, to make me change in a positive way.

If I use something from a store I do not know who had it in hands and left his energy on it, I do cleanse. The energy that is left on this item is not purposely bad, it's just different from mine and might disturb my own energy I'm rising when casting a circle.

By cleansing something I bought in a store, this item becomes kind of a "friend" to me. When I hold it after in my hands, it just seem to be warmer, to feel better, it's easier to let my power flow into it.

When I cleanse, I do it most time with the full moon, sprinkling holy water over the item (if possible), ask the 4 elements to clean it, do some visualization. In this thread, there had been many very good suggestions and I surely will add some of them to my own repertoire.
