Hello Again All,

I have an intresting question, is it possible for their to be spirits without any paranormal activity? I personally have "felt" all sorts of spirits in my home and room. Everything from Apollo to little critters, skinny green goblins/elves? about three inches high... and most everything in between, but I've only ever had one paranormal experience.

The experience I was when I was trying my damndest to lose my spirituality, my cat was sleeping with me and made the weirdest noise. I roll over to check on him and see the outline of a man, probably close to 6'5" - 7'. (I was laying down so it was hard to tell.) I flipped over so fast I wasn't sure if I'd seen it or not, and I put it as far out of my mind as I could, but it stayed with me. And of course eventually I found my way back...

Oh, and the lights occasionally pop on and off. But I'm not entirely convinced that isn't faulty electric work... And my stuff disappears when ever it decides the time is right. Lost two hundred dollars of CD's about two months before I won my Ipod... I'd rather blame that on Apollo or Hermes...

Is that normal? To "feel" so many different spirits and critters and even communicate with them and have no other phenomenon? Anyone else have a situation like this? Or just have a good spirit story to share?

Yes, quite "normal" indeed.  Not all spirits have the need for theatrics, especially if you are already aware of them. The ones who usually use electricity for me are the ones I'm ignoring or not aware of. The paranormal stuff is sometimes mostly an attention getter and if they already have your attention, well, the other stuff would be over-kill.

For me it is sometimes the spirit of an ancestor who wants to talk and I'm in a "its not a good time to talk" mode, we'll do this later....well sometimes what they want can't wait.

(At one busy time in my life I actually assigned clocks, lights and electrical switches to various deceased relatives to avoid confusion, but I forgot someone and he chose the refrigerator light - lol!)

I agree. The couple of times in my life that I've felt something Other, and it didn't feel like some God-touched moment, the hair just sort of stood up on the back of my neck. Both times, I just wanted to get away from it...and quickly.

No Scooby-Doo ghosts or poltergeist stuff, just a simple and primal knowledge that some otherworldly presence was nearby.

I've had a few fun ones like that. or I'll hear the back door open and it sounds like people come inside with groceries.

My experience with this sort of thing I chalk up to "house prints."  The impressions that were left by previous residents.  I think some of us are fairly sensitive to these.

Dang, I can't remember the title, but I read a book once where a woman was recognized by a new owner of her old home by her laugh. The minute the new owner heard her laugh, she said "So YOU are the one haunting my home".  If my memory kicks into gear I will list the book's title or author at least.

Place memory. Fairly common, actually.

In my experience, that's much more normal.

Your choice of the phrase "paranormal activity" sounds like you're referring to the phenomena mainly associated with poltergeists - which (even assuming that they're actual noncorporeal entities at all, which I'm a bit doubtful about) are just one type of "spirit".

I would say that is actually more normal. Causing manifestations of some type probably requires effort and energy, after all. Assuming spirits are roaming the world, I expect most spirits are probably not interested in making the effort.

I agree. For me getting the creepy-crawly sensation is much more normal than actually hearing, seeing, or getting a physical touch from a spirit. Those types of thing are more associated with poltergeist activity and are rarer. Fully body apparitions are even more uncommon. I think that because most of us are naturally working to increase our sensitivity through mediation and other Pagan practices that those sensations would probably be fairly common whether it be a ghost, fae, or deity.

Yeah, place or area memory is a lot more common then you might expect. I personally (maybe wrong, maybe not) attribute all those ghost sightings of people walking down halls or whatever to place memory, imprints of things that happened previously.

Place memory can be really major as well. I read about some places in America where entire revolutionary war battles will replay themselves pretty often.

Civil War, too. And some paranormal activity is ongoing around some coal mines, too - especially ones where deadly accidents have occurred.

You know, I’ve never had a problem with historical sites until I went to the Gettysburg battle field and even then I was perfectly fine on the field itself. It was after the official tour when a few school friends and I [it was a high school sponsored trip] were wandering around in the trees when I got the creepy-crawly sensation I associate with spirits. I remember trying to ignore it because I was with people and it was a sunny day but it was so strong that I ended up having to playful “steal” my friends camera so I could play race them out of the area.

We stopped at Gettysburg on a family vacation winding out through the northeast one time.  I had the creepy-crawlies the entire time...  There have been a few other historical sites that have done that to me as well, though Gettysburg is the only battlefield I've ever seen.  I've never quite been certain whether I was really reacting to "spirits" as such, or just had an overactive imagination, but...  there you have it.

A friend of mine used to lead "Ghost Tours" at Gettysburg.  Photos of the tours were often cluttered with orbs.

One time she was being heckled by someone during the tour, then the man abruptly stopped.  After the tour, he confessed that some unseen thing had grabbed his dogtags and yanked him around, which was when he stopped heckling.
