Id really like to know some of the tools, techniques, and resources you have used when first learning to meditate and focus your mind. Im having terrible problems getting parts of my mind -to-shut-up!

You might also have more success with a physical, or walking meditation. I have done this before and it is quite effective (and good for you at the same time!) at stilling your mind and helping train your focus in on one thing at a time. It might help you get a handle on the stilling your mind part, which will make a traditional mediation simpler.

Simply go for a walk (or jog, if you're energetic) and concentrate on your body, to the exclusion of all alse (I highly recommend you stay off the roads and in a relatively safe area for this one). Concentrate on your breathing, or on the steps you are taking (try counting your steps as you go, eg. 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4...) and away you go.

I do this when I walk to work, and find I am much calmer during the day and when I get home.

Yoga and Tai Chi are also similar, in that they help to train your mind as well, rather than just doing the exercise.

I can't stress highly enough though, the need to be very careful where and at what time you try this one. If you need to be aware of your surroundings for your own safety, then leave it for another day.

Just be forewarned I have quite a bite!
