Guided nature hikes pointing out medicinal plants are becoming quite common as well, many state parks offer them.  Even the Nature Conservancy is getting in on the show, my husband lead such a hike last month.  So you might also be able to learn about medicinal plants in that way.

That would be cool to do. A guided nature hike that points out all the medicinal herbs! I would love to do that. I wonder if they have it in Florida? I would rather go somewhere out west but all I got is the everglades!  Tongue   Better than nothing I guess!

Around here, the county parks dept. does that in the summer, from time to time. Or you could call the university extension service near you, and see if they do things like that, a lot of them do.

Any good sites or reccomended books?

I'm starting to play with the idea of using herbs and such to remove anxiety/bring health/etc. I don't want to do spells, just suggestions, tricks of the kitchen, etc.

My religious practices have always been geared toward divination, but I want to incorporate more of my faith into my life and these kinds of things are some small things I can do everyday. Plus the healing aspect is a throwback to Apollo, and I could definitly claim that as Apollo work. And maybe even Dionysos/Demeter work since I'd be trying to grow my own. So yeppers...

Got a copy of wonderful local herbalist Jeanne Rose's book "Kitchen Cosmetics" and thought of this thread. She has lots of books out on herbs and how to use them (not magically, but you can look up the correspondences and so on). Lots of great recipes.

Here is a bunch of her stuff on half.com

What I did was make a notebook with one page for each herb I was interested in growing.  Then when I found info in books, I would write it all down on that page with the book/page # so I didn't have to go about looking up each herb in each book every time I wanted an explanation of what oregano is good for, for example.  This book got misplaced during a move and I MISS it.  Anyway, this is a great way to learn to specialize and also to learn to use herbs.
Oh, Aromatherapy notes I put in a different color ink as the uses sometimes are vastly different and cautions need to be taken when using.

I like this idea I think I will use it with Herbs and my stones.... Thanks for the tip.
