I'm concerned about sticking genes in that couldn't be bred in, animals with plant genes, plants with animal genes, plants or animals that couldn't cross naturally. 

Really? I find this fascinating. Stuff like genetically modifying strawberries to contain the stuff that acts like anti-freeze in deep sea fish, so they arent as susceptible to frost.. I can see how it could be a worry if it got too far into Frankenstein territory, but otherwise i think its really cool...  Smiley

Well, parts of human DNA are patented.

Shall we even begin to discuss how problematic that is?  Then again, given I'm four days late to the thread, this is a discussion I may already have had.

It doesn't make sense to be charged with, say, copyright infringement or theft, due to possessing the natural offspring of a genetically engineered plant or animal.

You know, there's a reason I stayed away from IP law (hard or soft) while I was in law school.
