My mother (I came out to her tonight as not only a non-Christian but as one exploring paganism and witchcraft, and she was wonderfully supportive!) said that it could be that these things were simply not nurtured in me, or even discouraged through negative parenting/household environment, and that I shouldn't let that keep me from learning more even as an adult.

Wow, you're lucky to have such a supportive mother, i'm glad for you! I remember mine once going on about how silly it was to believe in any kind of God and so i just calmly said 'i would consider myself a Pagan'. She gave me a disgusted look and merely said: 'i wish you wouldn't'. To this day i still think of that as such a strange reply.
Anyway, people have already said a lot of things that I would say in reply to your post. Personally I think the best think about hedgewitchery/ kitchenwitchery is that in the end it really comes down to YOU. It is a path really, really based upon individuality. For instance, I always found myself more skilled with essential oils and herbs when it came to healing, and not such a brilliant cook! So i utilised the one which i was good at, and practiced at the one i was not!
Blessings.

'How she longed for winter then!-
Scrupulously austere in its order
Of white and black
Ice and rock; each sentiment within border,
And heart's frosty discipline
Exact as a snowflake'

I am feeling so encouraged by everyone. Whatever higher power is in the Universe, I am only getting positive signs that I need to be doing what I'm doing and continuing this way.

yay! Smiley

I remember dissing my mom in much this way, when I decided I had had enough with religion of all kinds, let alone spirituality. I regret it so much, and I am really sorry we can't share that now, except on the spirit level. Better than nothing for sure, but my hope for everyone, now, is that they can find someone they can share who they really are with, in their families.
