Hey Im new to this board and an ex-christian.....I am abisexual male and I was curious as to whether Pagans think homosexulity is wrong like Christians do.....I have only been studying Paganism seriously for about 2 months now.....My first circle was on Samhain...so id like to know as much as i cn about Paganism....Im afraid to tell some of my new Pagan friends (Including my teacher whom is a Pagan High Priest) that I am bisexual for fear of not being accepted in the Pagan Community....So is it right or wrong? Please answer me this Smiley\

~~Ethan~~

Welcome Ethan and I hope you find lots of love and light on your new path.
A lot of the Pagans I have talked to are Bisexual or gay or lezbian. It is highly accepted from my knowledge.. And also, I think that whereever you go and in all religions there will be people that will accept it and won't. Some Christians will accept your sexual orrientation no matter what it is and some Pagans will. It all really depends on the person.
But I have noticed that Pagans tend to be more open minded. That's my oppinion though. I'm bisexual as well.

I don't know that this will answer your question considering I'm an eclectic (read: Melting pot) pagan, but I personally feel -

LOVE is the closest thing to godliness that a human being can experience, therefore, all love is holy. Whether it is the love of a man, a woman, of oneself even -- the love of a good friend, of a pet, of a favorite tree... anything. So therefore, no matter who you love, it couldn't possibly be wrong. In fact, it couldn't be more right.

PS: I'm a pansexual female.

Just wondering but does that mean that I cannot practice the Craft and be a bisexual?

If it makes you feel any better, of the 8 practicing Wiccans in our meetup group, 6 are either bisexual or gay. Only four of them are members of an established coven though. The other 4 are solitary, if that makes any difference to you.

I am simply a (heterosexual) witch, not Wiccan, but I have no problem whatsoever with my friends' choices of sexuality. I work skyclad at times with bisexual and/or gay females, and it doesn't bother me a bit. Generally speaking, in my little part of world anyway, the as you and the people around you get older (or maybe more mature would be a better way to put it), the sexual orientation of a person becomes drastically less important than who the person is inside.

Remember that if you are going to join a group, you need to be comfortable with them, and they need to be comfortable with you. If your bisexuality is a problem for the group you are in now, just find another one! I wish you luck in finding your path. B.B.  Smiley

Personally, I've met a lot of bisexual Pagans. You'll find a lot of them with personal ads on Witchvox. I think that Pagans and Wiccans are generally pretty accepting when it comes to your sexuality!

Hi Ethan. Welcome to TC.

The only person who has the right to decide if this is right or wrong for you is you. For me, I grew up in a family with a few openly gay/lesbian members, and in my opinion, as long as you and your chosen partner are happy, that is all that matters.

None of the Pagans I know are opposed to any type of sexuality. I know a few of them are bisexual, and term themselves as also being 'polyamorous', which I think is a great word. To them, it is never wrong to love anyone in any way, be it as family, friend or lover. I tend to agree with them. Cool

Well, it's personal really, but Christains think it's wrong because the Bible says.  So Pagans don't really have a reason to as a religion.   Hypotheticly, your High Preist or friends could all be homo-phobes, and it would not have anything to do with the religion.  Did you know that there is actually a hormone in the brain that tells people to be gay or straight, so only really ignorant people would have a problem with it, in my opinion.

Wouldn't this depend on which Pagan religion you are talking about?

Well, it's personal really, but Christains think it's wrong because the Bible says.

I think this is usually just a way for them to pass the buck.  Many members of cultural majorities have historically been afraid of and demonized members of minority communities, including those whose sexual practices differed from their own.  It's just so much easier to say, "Sodom!" when the crime there, if I recall correctly, was abuse of the law of hospitality (still apparently very important in the MidEast, from what a few friends tell me).  But pin your bigotry on your religion, and you get out of having to explain why you hold to such hateful, hate-filled views.

Ethan, best of luck.  I'm a new arrival here in the forums, myself, a longtime (and aged) witch and a devout heterosexual. Cheesy I hope you find whatever you want, here, and I sincerely hope we find out tomorrow that Maine has rejected the bigots who want to keep gays from receiving the legal benefits of marriage.

I'd be interested in a source for that - particularly, because I demonstrably don't have anything telling me to be gay or straight; I'm bi.

I don't think I give you a better answer then what everyone else did, but whether someone wants to act on being gay, bi, straight, pan, whatever, it's their choice. Did they choose to genetically BE a certain way though? No. Sometimes this happens where a child is gay and the parents know it, but due to their beliefs will suppress and hide it. They might even completely DISOWN their kid if they act upon acting on their sexual preference.

I personally don't see myself as straight, gay, or bi or any of the like that right now. Nor do I want to. I just love everyone. Smiley Or at least try to.

I personally never met someone that has pagan beliefs that was against homosexuality. To be honest, I thought all pagans were pretty open minded people. But anyway, I'm getting off topic a bit...

So do what you believe is right. Smiley

I suppose. I was just saying in general, I don't think there is really any Pagan religion that is against homosexuality.  But I guess there might be.

Not that I've heard of, but that's not a rousing 'no' there. As far as I know, Pagans tend to accept people for the way that they are. IMO, it's about the person, not their sexual preferences.

I was raised christian, as well, and I started looking into different pagan religions after I started to disagree with christianity. I am bi, leaning more towards girls. I have realized that my relationship with the Goddess is more important than how others view me. I know that's not of much help to your question but just thought I'd share it. How are you now? (I noticed you haven't been on it a while)

I'm a Lesbian, but that is just a personal preference of mine, some may say, biologically speaking that Homosexuality is wrong, but then why would we have been given conscious thought and the ability to make decisions, no matter what they may be? We have been given this gift, would it not be wrong to be punished for what has been freely given to us by the divine above? (i say divine above, because many people have different views)

I am actually quite good thank you:) I have grown in my relationship with the Goddess and am learning new things every day. I have found that it isn't what others think of you that's what matters. It is more what you think of yourself and how you show that in your everyday life.Smiley
