I have a quill pen I often use to scratch out ideas when I’m having problems. Why the quill pen? I. like. the. sound. [hangs head] I’m weird.

I have a fountain pen that I like in part because of the sound.

when I was shopping for pens, the guy was trying to upsell me to this completely silent smooth model, and I'm like, dude, what's the point?  it needs to SCRATCH!

I have quills, but I have never tried using them for story writing, I might end up doing that. I do tend to revert to pencil and paper rather than keyboard when having real problems writing, but that is just my weirdness (why on earth does it matter what I am writing with Huh ).

My Oma (Dutch for Grandmother) says she needs to write it out by hand before typing it up because the words need to travel from her brain down her arm into her hand and out through the pen. That and she's been writing for a lot longer than she's been typing, so it's a more fluid way of getting her thoughts out. She's a hunt-and-peck typer, so there's no fluidity there for her.

I like writing things out by hand before typing them up, but my hand cramps within a matter of minutes. Sad

Me too. I hated having to write out assignments in school because it took so long and my hand began to hurt. I’ve always preferred a computer and a keyboard. It’s much faster. I use the quill pens because of the sound they make across paper; it sort of tricks my mind into imagining myself in another time and place. It usually bangs right through blocks. I usually end up with a page or two of jumbled little thoughts rather than whole ideas.

And now 6,773 total; 2,916 today.

Make that 18,915 for this month; 2,825 today; 31,835 for the novel. Smiley

Nice. I want to get a quill pen for certain projects. Regular pens I have aplenty, because I can never seem to find the perfect kind that writes as fast as I think. (There are really none like that, but I can dream...). Anyway, I like quills for the same reason you do -- imagining a different time and place. That's also why I listen to music while I write. I can better place myself somewhere else. Smiley

I used to hate school assignments too, because you'd get marked down if they were messy and my writing is messy all. the. time. I'd end up having to rewrite things about three times.  Angry How I loved being in college! I could just type everything up!  Roll Eyes

the BEST pen I've ever found is the Pilot V-ball for writing quickly and smoothly.  (to the point that when I found it again in a store after it had been discontinued, I did a victory dance.  can't take me ANYWHERE!).

I need more - I keep running them dry, and they come with a LOT of ink in them!

I just opened the file for that first ms for the first time in months.  It currently has about 43K and my goal is to finish it sometime before Yule (so I can cross it off my list).  So I think I will try to write somewhere in between 7-12K this month.  If I manage to finish it with 60K I will be ecstatic.

Update:

current word count: 421/7,000.
All together: 43,521/50,000.

As I said in the fall goals thread, I'm going into NaNo mode to finish writing this ms before the 22nd.  I am aiming for NaNo length but I would like it to be longer so if I get over 50K by then I will be even more happy.

If I had to write by hand my career would be over. I learned to type when I was about 5 years old - my mother was desperate to keep me busy and my parents business (they were accountants) was run from our back bedroom at the time.  I learned both to read and to type before I started school.  Really pissed off the teachers.  Anyway - I type very nearly as fast as I can think - add to that the arthritis I am beginning to get in my hands and I almost never pick up a pen for anything if I can find a way to do it on the computer.  I've been known to print out grocery lists - LOL.

As far as writing this month though - nada.  I started this project to draw the 12 days of Christmas - don't ever let me do anything like that again.  I still have two to go and I just can't face them - but I have to.  See me procrastinate, see me at Cauldron...see me with cabin fever having not been off the ranch at all for two weeks or so, not having spoken to any living being besides hubby and roomie.

YAAAAAAAAAAAh....I'm looking for some escape to occupy my mind for hours today - maybe I should be writing...

Current total - 2571 and already hitting writers block Smiley

Okay, up to 3936, hardly progress from my last total, but I am now on break and though the beginning of break was a bit of a hurdle with the long expected death of my grandmother, we had known it was coming but it was still a bit of a shock. But now the funeral and related hullabaloo are over and I am free to relax for the rest of break. Hopefully more writing will ensue. Writing and me-time are precisely what I need at the moment.

Just an update - the 12 days of Christmas artwork is done.  I gave myself a few days off for Yule and general decompression.  The current push is to get the rest of the livestock and schtuff moved from the big ranch to our new home on the little ranch.  This involves getting four cats to accept two dogs - and one of the dogs to stop chasing everything.  Currently my goal is to start writing Jan.1st a minimum of one short story per week - 1K words or more (I rarely seem able to tell a story in less than 2K).  Blogging and articles - well - I don't keep a word count on them, it would just get impractical as I spend a few hours almost every day on them.  So - hold me to it - Jan 1st I'll be in with a word count...
