Granted they'll still be funded by a group with an agenda, but they'll hopefully be less biased than the other team.

I would hope so. I've gotten cynical about studies funded by one side or the other -- too many years of living in the US where studies, like everything else seemed to be designed to support whatever those funding the study want to hear.
