I just got out of the hospital today. Went in Sunday night because an ingrown hair on my neck got infected, then got a staph infection in it. It swelled up very badly and the doctor was afraid the infection might get into my glands. I'm feeling better now, but something strange happened while I was in the hospital.

At bedtime, I was lying in bed trying to get centered and grounded before going to sleep. I closed my eyes and started looking for my center. (The first time I ever actually saw my center was amazing. I had just got started on the path. On my very first attempt I saw it. It was right behind my eyes. It looks like blue green shimmering water, like when someone underwater opens their eyes and looks up at the sun.) I seemed to be having a really difficult time finding it. Don't know if it was the pain medication, the stress of being in the hospital or what, but I just could not seem to visualize it.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, an eye opened and was staring back at me!!! It startled me so badly that I was unable to relax enough to try again.

Any idea what this was? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Fair Evening Herne,

You'll have to pardon me, I am not a master in interpretation- But I can provide my own personal feeling and opinion on the matter. I'd have to know more about exactly what the eye looked like, but here's what I feel on what you've said-

All I can think, is that the eye is representative of something inside of you. You were looking for your center, according to what you've said, and instead you found this eye- Without knowing what personal difficulties (aside from the medical) you've been having lately, and or the other details, it is hard to say. But my best guess is that it involves something inside of you, or something that you've ignored about yourself.

*shrugs* But again, I am not skilled in these matters. I've only done little dream interpretations for close friends with who I knew their emotional/life situations quite well. There's a lot more needed to be known in interpretation than just the vision.

I wish you well in finding your answer- Hopefully my thought on the matter may have helped a little bit. I'd recommend you look for that eye again in your meditations, and then confront it. Find out what the feelings are associated with it once you get past the emotional shock of seeing it there. This is assuming of course that it's something dealing with YOU, not something that an other being placed inside of you for whatever reason.

If you wish to or could share a few more details... That might help a bit. For instance, what did the eye look like? Did you feel malice behind it's stare, or more a look of curiosity? Also have you had any internal/personal conflicts as of late? Anything you can share that might provide insight into this matter would be helpful. Whatever you feel comfortable sharing, that is.

Well, there really wasn't anything special or out of the ordinary about the eye. I really didn't get a good look at it or observe it long enough to get impressions. It appeared so suddenly, and I was so startled that I immediately broke contact.

Unless you get a good reason to think otherwise, I'd say it was the pain medication.  The brain does fun stuff when chemicals are added. Smiley

Any idea what this was? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I've never had a single eye open, and I rarely meditate, but when I'm setting up for magic, healing, or ritual, I have sort of a habit of closing my eyes and waiting.  When two eyes appear out of the darkness and look into mine it's time to begin.

This is a personal idiosyncracy and not part of any path or wisdom I've learned.  It has happened all my life and is a part of getting centred for me.  It is also an after-check to know if what I'm doing has worked.

The eyes are almost always women's eyes, though the face around them is rarely clear.  Sometimes they're old, sometimes young, once an infant and many times a cycle of two or three sets.

I have to be careful not to just 'summon' this vision out of anxious hope or determined self-deception.  Luckily, I can usually tell if it's  me pushing too hard because something appears 'off' with the suggestion-of-face I perceive.  The 'real' eyes have appeared spontaneously when I'm extremely stressed, usually looking amused or reassuring.

I try not to think about it too much.  It's a useful guide and a comforting presence that I don't want to over-analyse or program.  It's an important phenomenon for me, and one I don't want to control.

I'm with Andy.  Pain meds do WEIRD things to the brain, along with sickness and everything else.  It wouldn't surprise me if you'd started to fall asleep instead of meditate, and your brain threw a random image at you.

Either that, or it's the Eye of Sauron - get any rings recently? Cheesy

Well Herne, I don't know a thing about what drugs do to alter the mind. Most pain meds put me out. So I've not taken many and usually small doses are enough. Or I detach from the area of pain.
That said, what jumps out at me, is if it wasn't the medication, I have experienced something similar. *while not on medications*

It was during a time period of study years ago. When I first started exploring what was going on inside my body. Learning the understanding of chakras, energy flows. Meanings, seeings, cleansings.. and the like.
I had gotten to the point of opening, cleansing, flowing, moving up all the chakras to the star, all in one sitting. Moving energy from earth through to star chakra and back down and around.
Took months to clear out the pipes before a complete circle I could do.

Anyways, I began to Really look at each one. When I got to the third eye, I concentrated on it's centre, I jumped with a start as a half opened eye stared back at me, from inside my forehead.
*one of those holy shit moments*
The jumping action made it closed. I was use to seeing things by view from this area at images, but they were more like  a photograph of someone or something. Not something that seemed to look back at me.

I seek out my friend/teacher and was told that I was born with my third eye half open.
*course that's all the direction that was given, due to the belief the journey is as important as the goal*
So I started digging for meditations and came across one for opening the third eye, as since the Jump reaction I was seeing a eye with the lid shut and I wasn't seeing many pictures in my forehead anymore.

So long story short. *to late eh?* After working with this chakra, sight changed.
I began to see the eye open. I began to feel a rippling affect go across my forehead just before I saw a picture. Each spring there was a shutdown *on it's own* and when it reopens there are changes or a fine tuning happened. Pictures began to move and developed into what I called mini movies.
The first time I got pulled into *or just followed in* one of these images, I notice that during, my forehead was tingling and a sudden pulling feeling, which is when I stumbled on ... the door swings both ways.

Whether you experienced this happening due to drug induced event, or the drugs allowed you to detach from yourself and centre around the third eye... It is worth looking *pun intended* into this. It is a doorway. *smiles* You will know soon enough with some study and practice... when Not on meds.

Just some thoughts about seeing One eye that looks back at you.
Marilyn's Two eyes looking back, I feel is different than what I'm talking about, other than the source of activity is the third eye. *just a thought that moved through*

My brain does this, frequently. I don't need any sort of drugs to do it. When I fall into "half sleep" mode, my brain is like a radio stuck on seek. Image after image, thought after thought, all completely and totally random.

yes, so annoying. Used to scare the heck out of me when I was little. I am just a very ADD type of person, I'm afraid. Learning some focus techniques and being careful to turn down the psychic volume and regularly adjust my shielding has helped a lot with this.

That happens to me all the time. All these images flash before my eyes, and there's no point trying to make sense out of any of them: they are completely illogical. I used to think it was some sort of message, but no. I think it's just your mind's way of sorting its shelves out before it goes into sleep mode.

It doesn't annoy me, in fact I find that "half sleep" time is EXTREMELY restful and healing. I have learned to control it, by using the "seek mode" state of mind as my cue to tell me that I have reached the state that I want. I then remain in that state by focusing on something, such as the TV or radio, so that I don't fall into deeper sleep.

I stay that way for about a half an hour and it's every bit as restful as several hours' sleep. It's wonderful. Smiley

I have turned something extremely annoying into something extremely useful.
