Man that sucks.  The only people who've ever bothered to plagiarize me are bad teeny bopper nu-age sites.

Hey, Isn't That . . .

Copyright is the reason I have very few of my pieces up on my site. I put up just enough so folks know they are in the right place, if they want to see more I email them the 'secret url' after I have talked with them and feel it is safe to do so. I hate online sales anyway, a whole lotta trouble for little return, image stealing being a big part of the trouble.

I got an email from a friend when I had more of my designs up (of course all my original work) who informed me that a guy had lifted my entire page and was trying to sell them as scroll saw designs. It was quite true, after an angry phone call to the guy and legal threats etc he took the page off his site, but I took it off my site as well. I worked very hard on those designs, they would never work for a scroll saw (I use a laser and a dental drill to cut them out) and this guy just stole them to make money. I make sure the images I do have up are very low res so they would print crappy and give them weird file names so they do not show up on image searches to discourage people trying to rip me off. This is how I eat, for crying out loud.

The stuff I put online that is "copyable" all have watermarks across them in places that can't easily be cropped out.

That does discourage a lot of people, but anyone good in photoshop can get rid of a watermark in about five minutes or less. I can, but of course I never do as I respect other people's property. But it isn't very hard to do. I really haven't found a good way to protect my work, except not putting it up in the first place, or putting up pieces I do not care if they copy. I have seen my Crone painting on a few sites, but what the heck, I do not use my fine art for income and I take it as sorta a compliment. My Unicorn pops up from time to time as well. Just don't mess with my wood working designs!
