Huh Why cut branches off a living tree when you're going to be in a woods?  Why not use branches that have already fallen from the trees, instead of risking damage to a healthy living tree?  Just curious.

When I was wild crafting herbs, I never took the entire plant, knowing what I was doing was a sort of pruning. Where I took a stalk of flowers or a branch of leaves, two would grow the next year. I thanked the plant, of course. I think taking the nature of trees into consideration, asking for a branch isn't awful. I have a beautiful dried branch from an ancient coastal redwood that I purposely asked the tree for and it was important to me to have it live and fresh from the mother for the ritual I was doing.

But yes, I feel you need to take that into consideration and be careful how/where you cut/trim.
