The Reformed Celtic Polytheism SIG is a "reformed recon"-oriented board focused on Celtic polytheism and related ancient beliefs. The primary purpose of this SIG is to create a community open to modern Celtic polytheistic religions that are strongly informed by academic information on ancient Celtic beliefs and practices, but do not exclude or dismiss the importance of personal gnosis. The idea of "Reformed Reconstructionism" is that one can never truly recreate in a modern society an ancient religion like that practiced by the ancient Celts for a number of reasons (including a lack of credible information about what those religious practices were).

This SIG is an attempt to foster a community for those who follow or are creating their own modern Celtic polytheistic religions that fit into the modern pluralistic society we live in, while remaining true to the basic core of ancient Celtic religious beliefs, as we are able to understand and interpret those beliefs. Our embrace of personal gnosis may turn off some "strict recons," but there are several groups aimed at developing and practicing strict Celtic recon religions. This SIG is not one of them.

You will have a better experience here if you keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • This is still a recon-based discussion area; though we wholeheartedly embrace Unconfirmed Personal Gnosis (UPG) and non-primary or non-scholastic secondary sources, they cannot and are not given the same weight as primary source material or scholastic secondary material. Because the ancient Celts did not leave us written records of their religious practices, we must rely on academically-sound research in areas such as archeology, art, mythology, history and comparative religion. If you are using UPG or questionable modern sources, you need to state that up front in your posts.
  • This SIG intends to encourage modern Celtic religious practices; we are not attempting to duplicate an ancient Celtic religion. If you have problems with this idea, this is probably not the SIG for you.
  • Recon "pissing" contests (e.g. "I'm a real Recon and you aren't because I do 'X' and you don't") are absolutely not welcome here. The Gods are welcome to judge who is a true worshipper and who is not if they so wish, but it is hubris for us to do it for them.

If you have further questions, feel free to start a thread or send a private message to our SIG leader Juni.
