Hi y'all!

I have a small ton of pagan-themed Crochet patterns in my bookmarks (and some cross-stitch, but those are harder to find). Is anyone interested in doing a pattern swap and/or craft exchange? I could always use more patterns. I won't be able to actually make anything else until I get the star and moon pillows done for a friend's baby. (The baby's due in June... I'd like to get them done ASAP.)

I don't have any of that stuff - but I'd LOVE to see your crochet bookmarks!  I've looked and looked for Pagan-themed stuff and found NOTHING.  (other than really weird stuff, usually Christian-themed.  don't ask me how I end up there, I don't know.  my google-fu is weak).

All I've been making lately is tiny little blankets for dollhouses.  Know anyone that does dollhousing and needs a to-scale blanket? Cheesy

I don't have any of that stuff - but I'd LOVE to see your crochet bookmarks!

This is all the links in my crochet folder. Most are pagan. Some are not. Some are, er, a bit adult, so don't assume anything's work friendly... I can't remember which is which.

Aw,only crochet ones? No knitting ones? I only knit.

I have a lot less knitting stuff because I'm still very much a beginner at knitting. My knitting is really tight, and I can't figure out how to not strangle the yarn.

Here's my knitting links. I got the first one from someone on the Thicket, IIRC. That first one is not work-friendly, BTW.

Just out of curiosity, which hand do you hold your yarn in?

The reason I ask is me...if I were to try and hold the yarn in my left hand and "pick knit" the way my mom does, my guage on size 8 needles drops down to about the guage on a size 4 or so. However, I've found that if I throw my yarn (yarn in my right hand, loop it over the needle), my guage goes back to where it belongs.

Sounds like you're fairly new to Continental?  Once you get the hang of it, you'll loosen your hold on the yarn and your gauge will sort itself out.  I suspect it's just a practice thing, not the technique specifically.

Nope, not new at all. I've watched my mom knit Continental for my entire life and I've tried it many, many times.

One of my biggest problems with it is I also crochet and I absolutely cannot get my left index finger to lie down and behave when I try to knit that way...it wants to fly to tension the yarn the way it does when I crochet. Another one of my problems with it is it makes my brain itch just thinking about trying to knit that way.

My mom knits Continental; I throw my yarn. It works out just fine that way! Wink

I knit like you, Celtee, Continental just does not work for me.

I don't even crochet, but this was on one of my lists this am, and it so cute and seemed appropriate for posting on this particular forum...

Left, I think. It's been so long since I picked up the knitting needles. I wrap the yarn on my left index finger for crocheting, so I'm pretty sure I do the same with the knitting... since the right hand's doing all the other major work with both styles of yarn craft.

I think I just need to relax my grip on the yarn and let the tension sort itself out on it's own.

When I tension my yarn (worsted/4 ply) on my left hand while knitting, my gauge on size 8 needles drops down to about the gauge of size 4s.  Shocked Not good, not good at all.  Undecided

So I made a simple switch and learnt how to throw my yarn. My gauge went back to where it should be, I've better control of my knitting, and I don't have the headaches I used to get by concentrating so hard on trying to pick my stitches.

For more information on both pick-knitting and throwing your yarn, see this site. Oh, and they have free patterns, too! Grin

I'll give it a try, then. I haven't knitted long enough to have it ingrained yet... though the crochet influence might bleed over... I hold the yarn in my left hand to crochet, but that doesn't seem to make my work too tight... I guess because I'm always pulling on the stitch with the hook and keeping it loose.
