I thought I should update on the situation.

I visited them today and he is still drinking.  The thing is that this afternoon my sister was caught skipping school and he is livid at that (as my mom).  So I guess I'll just have to wait to see how this one turns out Sad

Sounds like she is really acting out. A lot of times, there will be a kid in the family who will take it on themselves to do this, to sort of carry the burden of the whole family's emotional turmoil, and I am sorry she is going through this. I hope you are able to support her, to just be there for her and talk to her.

Actually, in her own way, she kind of is. When kids start acting up in response to their parent's bullshit, it is b/c they are trying to draw attention to the fact that everyone and everything is *not ok. They are trying to show that there is an elephant in the living room, no matter how much everybody wants to avoid dealing with it.

I agree. Depends on your area, but around here the meetings are nearly all quite pagan-friendly, as well.

There are loads of AA alternatives out there, if your dad 'aint interested in it. Google 'Rational Recovery' or 'SMART alcohol Recovery' or just type in "AA alternatives'.

Many are put off by AA and find it overtly Christian, although it does not have any religious affiliation, it just happens most members were brought up in the Christian culture so they bring many preconceptions to the meetings.

Good luck

I know you were trying to help, but this thread is three years old.  Melaphoros' sister must be 18 or 19 now.

She's 19 and a college sophomore.

And if there is one thing that I hate more than digging up years-old threads that are no longer relevant, it's concern trolls that bring spam to the table.

Yeah, that's pretty crappy of this guy / gal, whatever it is. They had to go out of their way to find this, and they actually thought people would like what they had to offer?

They probably just Googled for anything that was in their field of spam, and spammed every spammable result.
