Probably not the best idea for text considering how common red-green color blindness is.

Hmmm..  What's that say for the choice of colors in traffic lights?   Cheesy

Well, there's always navy blue, but really, black bold/italic would probably be just as well... or maybe a different font?

I know!  Electric Lime Green!     (just kidding)

What Randall said.

I don't really see a writing style as being indicative of absolute adoration to an author. I've run into the St. Scott people. They act like the $RW groupies. Unless you're equating Scott's writing as the be all and end all of Wicca, I don't think it's the same thing.

I don't see how I could equate anything to anything, since I am way way over on the eclectic wicca-friendly-but-definitely-not-wicca side of the spectrum. Sigh. I guess I have not run into anyone as hardcore as you are describing, which is just more proof that I don't get out much, I guess.

Either that or your brain is tuned to drown out such people. Sometimes that's how mine is- it stops me from the urge to shake people.

Count yourself lucky, then. I've been on this message board in some form or other for nearly 10 years and Randall has double my experience, and between the two of us, we've run into just about every type of Pagan you can mention.

One beginner book that I had recommended to me, with the caveat that most of her other books weren't as good, was To Ride a Silver Broomstick by Silver Ravenwolf. I also had the A Witch's Bible recommended after my pagan friend found me reading Joyce Higginbotham's Paganism: An Introduction to Earth- Centered Religions, which I've found to be a rather thought-provoking general overview book that also makes you question why you're looking at paganism in the first place....that is to say, making you ask yourself if you're looking at paganism for the religious aspects or just because being a "witch" is cool.

Joyce Higginbotham's Paganism: An Introduction to Earth- Centered Religions,

Not aimed at you here...

One of these days, people will quit titling these damn books where Paganism = Earth-Centered Religion and I shall be a happy woman.  **sigh**

Honestly it's not worth it. Most of the people who do this crap know better. That's what makes it so much more frustrating than when I first came online in 98. Back then, you really didn't hear much from any of your Recon groups except maybe the Asatruar. It was hard to blame people who had never come in contact with us, but now, Recons are definitely out amongst the more general pagan population, and I can guarantee you that now most folks know Recons do not equal Earth-centered. There aren't too many ways to trip our trigger faster than trying to lump us in with the earth-centered guys. Most Recons aren't going to waste time over on Witchvox either. Nothing against Fritz and Wren, but Witches' Voice isn't a place most Recons are going to go to.

But that is why it seems like a good place to raise consciousness about it. As you know, hanging out on tC has been quite an eye-opener for me, and I really had no idea I was so unconscious of what others were up to until the recons started getting all testy with me and my assumptions. I think it's good to let people know who you are and what you are and what you want from other people, as a general rule of living, personally. And I have learned a lot from those kinds of open (if cranky, sometimes) discussions that happen here, they are really not very common in the pagan world, ime. On most of the other lists i've been on, everyone is assumed to be witchy in one way or another, and if you aren't going to talk about that then you are invited to be quiet or are ignored. Interfaith acceptance and consciousness would be great, and I totally support any endeavor toward that (I am really turning UU, oh dear....).

But I of course understand why you wouldn't want to do it. A giant giant PITA, if ever there was one, that task, but I hope someone will be willing to take it on, more than it is now, one day.

I've got the same book but haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but yeah - since the time I bought it and now, I've also learned that basic truth.  So, I gotta take the book with a grain of salt when I get to it. Still, it's worth having if for no other reason that the authors have my same namesake - a rather amazing coincidence considering the uncommon status of the name,  I might add..  and you can see why I don't usually go by my paternal name..  12 letters/4 syllables  is a PITA!  lol

I know how you feel...mine isn't four syllables, but it's an unusual Russian name, which drove me nuts as a kid when the dumb substitute teachers would mangle the damn thing up one side and down the other.  Thank god my man's last name is a nice, simple Irish name LOL
