Also, in regard to cleaning a coffee maker with vinegar, you have to be careful b/c too much will make your coffee taste really bad.
That's why you run 2 or 3 pots of water through afterwards to rinse it out.

We used that Urnex stuff where I used to work, to clean out the coffee pots. I didn't see anything real special about it...but if it works go for it.
This is for after it's cleaned. My grandmother used to keep a marble in her tea kettle. It bounces around while the water boils and breaks up the deposts and in part keeps them from sticking. It does help although the deposits will still build up, just slower and less thickly.
