The thread about the most annoying TV personalities started me thinking about TV shows.

What's the most annoying TV shows in your life?

Mine are, in no particular order:

1. Football - My mom's partner has to watch every blessed football game on network TV (Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC -- we don't have cable/satellite/whatever)  that's on every weekend and to hell with what anybody else might like to watch. Thank the Gods and Goddesses that Monday Night Football is now on ESPN! Cheesy Cheesy

2. Any and all "paid advertisments" - Aren't they all? Some of them just don't know when to quit.
3. News - Again, my mom's partner has to was two hours of news every blessed night.
4. Ugly Betty - The name annoys the shit out of me.

5. Desperate Housewives - Primetime "soap opera"...who's going to be in whose bed this week? Roll Eyes

Tis what I can think of for now. I'm sure others will come later.

What's the most annoying TV shows in your life?

I'll see your football and raise you a Nascar.  At least no one in my house watches it, though; it just pre-empts the things we do want to watch.

Also, of course any of the shows on Food Network hosted by people who made my "most annoying TV personalities" list (Sandra Lee, Paula Deen, probably Rachael Ray and Emeril and Bobby Flay as well).

And Spongebob Squarepants.  OMG.  I'm praying that thing's out of fashion by the time Natalie's old enough to want to watch it, but I don't have much hope of that happening.  It's not that it seems to be a horrible show, it's just that it grates on me in an undefinable fingernails-on-chalkboard way.

Most stuff on Comedy Central, other than The Daily Show (and probably The Colbert Report--I don't actually watch it, but think it probably wouldn't annoy me if I did).  South Park has even odds of being good or really annoying, too.  Outside of those things, the channel's kind of humor is apparently just not my kind of humor.

Hubby also tends to over-watch some cartoons that are actually perfectly good shows (Pinky and the Brain, the Simpsons, Futurama), so I will occasionally get annoyed with them even though, deep down, I actually like them pretty well.

I hesitate to judge an entire multi-season show on the basis of two episodes (and episodes probably heavily edited for basic cable at that), but the little tiny bit of Sex and the City I've seen has annoyed the living hell out of me.  One of the episodes I saw was particularly disparaging to the kind of life I envisioned for myself at the time (and indeed, the life that has more or less come to pass), and it just was not a very good first impression.  The other episode...  I don't know.  I guess sex just isn't generally comedy for me.

right now?  Higglytown Heroes.  Guess what's on?  *sigh*  But Darius becomes a happy loveable child if he watches a little TV after he first wakes up, and is a MONSTER if he doesn't.  I can live.

Naruto.  Uli loves watching it.  I want to slap the snot out of every character.  I'm just plain not in the room while he watches it.

That's really it, because really, if we don't like what's on, we turn off the TV .. it'll probably get worse when Darius is old enough to choose shows for himself!

I agree with the sports. I HATE sports of all kinds. I hate the way our culture idolizes sports figures, paying them millions of dollars, while the REAL heroes, our teachers, can barely afford to feed their families.

I LOATHE Seinfeld. Seemed like everyone else in America LOVED it. Not me. I wanted to hide under the bed everytime it came on.

I dislike Spongebob too!

The thread about the most annoying TV personalities started me thinking about TV shows.

What's the most annoying TV shows in your life?

1. Football and Nascar -- especially when it goes into the time slot of something I do want to watch.  My parents can't get enough of it.  Nascar bugs me more because I could never understand the appeal of watching a bunch of cars going around in circles very fast when gas prices are so high.  Note that I live in the South and I may get lynched if I said this in a rural area.

2. Any show that features someone who made my annoying TV personalities list.  This includes anything with Donald Trump, Tyra Banks, Rachel Ray, Oprah, Dr. Phil, ect.

3. Anything on Nickelodeon or The Disney Channel.  While I'm at it, I'll throw the puppet shows on PBS as well.

4. American Idol.  When it's on it seems like it's the only thing people talk about.  I don't watch it because I found out about their homophobic policies.

5. Anything on MTV or Vh1 that is not music videos.  This is why I liked Fuse when I had it -- it plays music for most of the time it's on the air.

6. Anything on Fox News, 'nuf said.

7. Project runway, America's Next Top Model (which gets double for having Tyra Banks on it) and other shows about fashion.  I'm not interested in fashion, in fact what I wear probably isn't considered fashion.  And what I can't stand is the fact that most of the gay guys on TV are on these shows.  To me it's just reinforcing a stereotype that I wish could be done away with.

8. Merv Griffin's Crosswords.  I sometime catch this playing at the laundromat and I would enjoy it if the host wasn't trying to impersonate Billy Mays.

9.  The entertainment news shows (ET, Extra, Access Hollywood).  I can't see why anyone would watch them.  Like Britney Spears driving around in circles all night sipping coffee that's probably laced with something else is actually important.  This is why I watch The Soup because it pokes fun at not only entertainment news shows but the celebrities that they "seriously" try to cover.

10. This ties in with number 9.  Most of the shows on the E! Channel.  Not only does it have entertainment news shows but they also picked up the Simple Life and has shows that are exact duplicates of them (ie-bimbos doing something stupid).  The only show I watch on it is the Soup.

Thank you!  I agree with the athletes.  People get so worked up whenever one is caught using steroids it's sickening.  Whenever someone says "It's just not something he would do," I want to say "Do you know him personally?  Then how do you know what he would do and what he wouldn't"

I never understood Seinfeld.  Was it suppose to be funny?  Even in his stand up isn't funny.

ETA: Spongebob.  I hated that show from the beginning.  Do you know what's really sad?  I have classmates -- COLLEGE students -- who still watch it!

Hmm what shows do I hate…

Reality TV.  Big brother is the big one that I hate.  What are people so bored with there lives they have to sit and watch… people sitting around.  In the UK they pick though most self obsessed, vapid, attention seeking weirdoes who want to go in.  After 8 series or what ever you would think people would get bored of it by now.

The OC.  I never got in to that.  I just hate shows that are about a bunch of pretty rich kids and there melodramatic “problems”.

I enjoyed desperate housewives season 1 and a part of season 2.  Once you found out about the whole why did Mary Alice die thing the show lost its point.  Terry Hatcher just pisses me off.

I like the shows on Nickelodeon and Disney channel like Hannah Montana and the Suite Life of Zac and Codey, I blame my sister for watching though shows incessantly.  No 20 year old guy should be able to sing the theme tune to Hanna Montana Wink

SpongeBob is great. I mean any show with a sponge living in a pineapple with a pet snail that sounds like a cat has to be good Cheesy “Oh who lives in a pineapple under the sea…” Come on every one you know you want to sing along Tongue

The one that gets me is Survivor.  I mean, it doesn't annoy me per se, but I absolutely cannot believe that it's still going (and been picked up through season 17, I think).  When is enough enough already?  You know?

yeah - I was looking at show listings and there was something for Big Brother 9, and my brain just JAMMED.  I coulda SWORN that show had died a miserable death by now, y'know?

I actually like Project Runway (guilty pleasure!) and I enjoyed the Next Iron Chef on Food Network.  And I sometimes watched Next Food Network Star.  but that's really it on my reality TV - if I can't watch and judge stuff on my own, I'm bored!

(and for Project Runway - fashion FASCINATES me.  I don't want anything to DO with it - anyone that sees the way I dress would know that!  but it fascinates the hell out of me.)

Not much different here in the States, which is why I don't watch reality TV.

For some reason, my sister is obsessed with these.  Or at least she use to be, haven't been around her much to know what she watches anymore.  I never got into them even when I was a teenager.  Might be because I was surrounded by the same brand of idiots at school.

I liked the first season because since it revolved around Mary Alice's death it was filled with dark humor (my personal favorite brand of humor).  Now it has the exact same jokes as every other prime time show.

I have a friend who lives in a rather large city in Southern California; said city has two ball teams.

The police department in that city is world class (the inspectors from Scotland Yard visited to gather ideas when it became the New Scotland Yard) but is severely underfunded due to people having misplaced priorities and putting "the home teams" over and above public safety. Shocked In fact, she was telling me just the other night that, when she was involved in the community policing aspect of things, the police department was still using communications equipment and in-cruiser computers that were so outdated, Arizona had identical equipment in their museum! Shocked Shocked

I mean really; what the hell?? Are sports, and megamillion sports 'stars', becoming so bloody blessed important that they take precedent over public servants and public safety?

The thread about the most annoying TV personalities started me thinking about TV shows.

What's the most annoying TV shows in your life?

NASCAR.  I want my BMX/rollerblading/skateboarding competitions!  I hate it when I turn on the TV hoping to catch one of the latter, or because I saw it was on the schedule, and FUCKING NASCAR is on instead!

Friends.  I was never into it and am actually kind of glad it's been over for a while.

Everybody Loves Raymond reruns.  I hated that series for some reason that I still can't pinpoint.

Pretty much anything on the entertainment channels.  I miss the days when we got The Box, and when VH1 and MTV were all about the music videos.  Sex Appeal, Insomniac Theater, Pop-up Video......I miss that.

I don't really watch Desperate Housewives (in particular because I've decided to make damn sure I don't end up like them and watching would just make me cry).  I can do without that.

Rachael Ray's talk show.  Go away.  Just go away, take your millions, and leave the culinary world alone.

Talk shows in general I guess.  Except maybe for Ellen DeGeneres.

Most cartoons.  possibly the only ones I bother to watch when I can are Code Lyoko and Ed, Edd & eddy.  I miss stuff like Invader Zim, Rocko's Modern Life, and The Angry Beavers.

Family Guy.  It's the same thing every show.  The same joke every 5 minutes.  I just don't get it.

I agree with the thoughts on Seinfeld.  I don't get what's so funny.

I don't find most stand-up comedy funny either.

I know exactly why I hate "Everybody loves Raymond": Its "humor" consists entirely of characters acting sarcastic, mean, disrespectful, cowardly, deceptive, condescending, lazy and selfish all the frickin time. The same for Frasier except you can add snobbish and prissy to the list. Honestly I don't know why my mom likes these shows.  Huh

Same for dramas like 24 where all the characters are angsty, paranoid, confrontational etc. I get the feeling some network executive somewhere wrote a memo that honesty, honor and loyalty don't sell. Or that they're unrealistic (which point of view would send me looking for a baseball bat). This is why I stick with Mythbusters and Japanese adventure series. Oh, and Dancing With The Stars is one reality show I'll actually watch.
