I've decided that it's time to move up from my decidedly NOT libation-proof (Cheesy) robe which requires strange acrobatics to put on and take off. Grin

What I'm looking for, is dark green, and opens up the front (I'm sick to death of the 'over the head' type like I currently have). I'm also looking to NOT make it myself, though I can, I don't want to. I hate sewing. Wink

Does anyone know of a good place (preferably online) to buy a suitable robe of decent quality that isn't too expensive? (I'm not looking for dirt cheap, though I won't turn down dirt cheap. I'm looking for...say...under 50$ if possible).

The only ones I have found have either been way out of my price range (hundreds of dollars) or insanely cheap Halloween junk.

It's occurred to me that I should try reenactment/renaissance costume places, but I haven't looked that far yet.

I only have one robe and I got it off of eBay a year or so ago, this is the seller's site link...

Mine is one of the two sided ones, I opted for black and green.  She sells 1-sided ones as well (less expensive, $45 plus shipping)..  They are all open front with hoods (interestingly enough I want to get one that's not an open front)

Still, I would say the best way to get a robe is to find someone local, I ended up having to get my robe shortened a good couple of inches because it was too long and dragging and it cost over half of what the robe itself did (40 bucks).  Ordering online there is no way to get perfect measurements.

I am always surprised, I've talked to several pagans locally and online and a lot of them all recommend Halloween stores (sometimes after the season when the sales are on), I find the idea a bit cheesy myself, perhaps it feels a little too lowbrow to adapt a Grim Reaper cloak for serious ritual use.

Ren wear is a possibility but will probably cost the most of the three.

There is no place to buy locally around here. Even Wal*Mart is 40 miles...(KMart is only 20 though).

I agree with you on the Halloween stores being cheesy LOL. Actually I could see doing it but I want better quality than what I've seen in those places.

Maybe I'm under-thinking this, but if it's just for personal use, have you considered a bathrobe?  Or at least starting with a robe and customizing it?

Actually, I have! LOL

It needs to be the right one though. Fuzzy and terrycloth are definitely not it. Dead give away. Grin

you are SO narrow-minded! Cheesy

There are silk ones, like Victoria's Secret type robes.  Some of them are really nice - look in the lingerie section of stores.

I got one from my local "witchy" store for $20.  It's an open robe with a clasp closure, but it has no hood.  The following webite is the company label on the robe, but I don't think they have the exact same one.

http://www.ancientcircles.com/

And ebay:

Here is a Buld-A-Robe Site (custom made to your measurements, minimum cost is 100 dollars though)

And this one is just for fun *be prepared to drool*

Mari sent me a link to the person who made her robes. I sent an email inquiring. Smiley

Ancient Circles has some awesome stuff. Nothing like I'm looking for, though.

It's worth finding out if she still is in the robe business. Wink

Btw, she's the lady who took care of Grey Lady for three months after I found her in a dumpster on the property of our apartment complex.

I think it is really nice to have one made for you, or make it yourself. That said, I have a very wonderful green silk kimono type robe with butterflies embroidered on it that my dh got me a couple of years ago at a chinatown import store for about 40 or 50 dollars.  I thiI'll try and post a pic later or tomorrow if I have time, but here's an ebay link for a bunch of similar stuff

Unfortunately she has a big order that she's working on.

I have a feeling she might be worth waiting for though. Smiley

Any other ideas?

She's the only person I've ever purchased robes from. Sad She may just be worth you waiting on, though.

I think maybe I will. I got a seriously good "vibe" from her. Smiley
