I'm just curious as to how often our members visit this message board, hence this poll. Smiley

I'm your first "other" vote.  When I am able to come here in my life, I'm here every day.  However, enormous swathes of time go by where I am simply unable to take the time to visit here so it may be months before I'm back again.  Sometimes I have to take breaks from online life.   Wink

Several times a day.  It's part of my routine.  I spend a lot of time on net when hubby's at work or asleep - three or four forums I'm active in, another several I just read at, intermittent conversations with family and friends, almost all of whom have the net these days.

I don't know if I could handle living out in the boonies anymore without my net.  I used to take my electric cart the five miles to the nearest town, but since my uncle died I don't know anyone there to visit anymore.

In the morning before work, before bed, and sometimes in the middle. (Usually briefly, each time: I open a bunch of tabs with threads to read, hit the quote/reply on anything I may want to reply to in a new tab, and work my way through. Usually takes me 15-20 minutes, depending, if I'm not replying to anything.)

At the moment, I'm logged in more than I probably should be but as no one's had an issue here with it I'm not overly worried.  I'll login in the morning and out in the evening and refresh the page throughout the day.  For me, it's a necessary community experience right now which I really need.
Hey me too! Although it's getting borderline unhealthy. I get nothing done most of all day, since I am grounded this is the only outside communication I get.. (besides school and 15 minutes max on the phone...) I overdo it a bit, I admit. But what can you expect, I love talking to people!

Other for me because it depends on the day.  On Monday-Thursday I check in first thing in the morning, turn the computer off when I go to school and turn it back on when I get home.  On Friday and the weekend I keep the computer on from when I wake up to when I go to bed.

Either way, when my computer is on I always have at least one tab with TC open.

I voted other. I like it here, I come often, but my participation varies greatly depending on my life and the lives of my family. Also, sometimes there are topics going on that I am really interested in, and sometimes not. Generally I read/post for a while once or twice a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Once a day person here.  TC is the last stop in my routine.  Mainly because it takes the longest.  Weeknights I'm here 2-3 hours, keeping up with the public folders I read (Announcements/Comments, then SIGs, then Basics.)  It's not unusual for me to do a marathon reading on one of the weekends.  Keeps me from falling behind on the Members sections too quickly.

I visit once a day... usually.  Days like today..a couple of times.

We're on a dial up connection, with horribly sloooow speeds. (24  and at the highest 26.4kbps.)  And quite regularly get knocked of line, so i don't always log in when i lurk thru.

Mea, the dial-up wearied.

My dialup connection in San Antonio was only a little better. 31.2K average.

Just one time we connected at 32K, i think is was,  i thought it would be a bit faster... yep... within a minute we got kicked off line.  Hasn't happened since. (the faster connection, that is.  Just while reading thru this particular thread, i was kicked off twice.  Bad day in Mudville !)

Since I can't visit message boards at work, I tend to only get in here once or twice a week. If I could check it at work, I'd be in the several times a day category.

Just one time we connected at 32K, i think is was,  i thought it would be a bit faster... yep... within a minute we got kicked off line.

Mea, have you considered calling your ISP and requesting your modem initialization string be modified to lock your modem down to a slightly slower speed?  I know that seems nutz but it does help.  I used to do that a lot for customers who had noisy phone lines back when I worked customer service for an ISP.

The basic premise here is that connecting at a slightly slower speed allows the modem communication to be slightly more stable in the presence of static and pops on the phone line.  The advantage here is that, while your overall browsing is a bit slower, you're not always getting knocked offline, often losing anything you may have been working on, and having to dial back in and find that web page you drilled down through 10 other pages to get to or reconstruct that post that got lost when the browser closed on you.

How you would modify the modem string is going to be dependent on your ISP, the software they use and the hardware you have installed.

Another thing to check out would be to have the phone company check your lines from the outside of your house to the street and on down to the switch/hub where all the phone lines in your neighborhood come together.  Any noise on those lines will affect your modems communication stability.  While the phone company won't guarantee any kind of data transfer rate they should be willing to do some maintenance on the lines if there's noticible noise.

Just a few things to consider.

It depends really. Some weeks, I come several times a day... other times just several times a week. I like to check in and see what is going on, I don't always have something to write.
