Caveat: If your god or gods would take it amiss for you to talk about them in a joking manner, then you know what to do. Also, if your god or goddess is jealous god, you probably aught to pick him or her, just for safeties sake.

My pick would be Athena. Fierce, smart, logical, dexterous with her fingers. Supposedly a virgin, but that might just be old fashioned speak for lesbian.

No. It wouldn't mean lesbian to the Greeks, so you can probably toss that one out and keep her a virgin.

As Lyric said, not to the Greeks. They would not have had much of a problem calling a spade a spade.

Echoing Lyric and Randall, the Ancient Greeks would have no reason to use the word "virgin" when they meant what we would call a "lesbian."

Oh. And to answer the poster's original question.

Now, you know I love you, right?  Smiley

I suspect I'd like to date Hermes. Or Zeus.

I agree with you i/r/t Hermes, mainly because he seems like someone I could see being attached to romantically for a long time.  I can see myself with Dionysus as well.

No to Zeus because I don't want to get on Hera's bad side.

My pick would be Athena. Fierce, smart, logical, dexterous with her fingers.

You're moving in on my girlfriend?

Twenty-four years ago I made the decision that, instead of trying the dating 'scene', I would rather pray that God pick out the right girl for me and bring us together at the right time. I spent ten years praying, with no visible results other than a couple of particularly vivid dreams. Then, one evening at Disney World, I run into a charming young lady. It turns out that we have some things in common; favorite movies and such; and so I ask her to accompany me through the park for the rest of the evening. She consents.

Before I know it I'm having the time of my life. This girl is smart, witty, a great conversationalist, and she has some profound insights into spiritual things. I'm thinking that this is too good to be true. When the park finally closes, I want to try to keep the magic going, and so I ask her if she wants to get a bite to eat. But she declines, saying that she has to be getting back, and leaves in the direction of the employee exit. As she leaves, I'm wondering what to do next when a very strong thought comes to me: "You know her name, you know where she works, write her a letter!"

So I do. Three letters, to be exact. One in care of Disney Guest Relations, one in care of the manager at the restaurant where she said she was working, and one addressed via the vice-president of employee relations. I get no replies. Frustrated, I give up writing letters and turn back to prayer. Then, that December, I'm across town Christmas shopping when I suddenly fall ill. My symptoms are similar to a stroke but, as it turns out, it was an ear infection which spread to the inner ear. I just know that I'm in no condition to drive, so I phone for an ambulance. Then a woman comes up to me, wanting to give me a ride to the hospital. I initially refuse—Mama taught me young not to take rides from strangers—but she persists. Then she tells me her name. It's the same name as the girl in Florida. Except this woman is at least fifteen years older. I relent and go with her.

She seems to be able to anticipate my needs; at one point I grow nauseous and at that exact moment she asks if there is anything I need. I tell her I could use a bucket to throw up in; she reaches into the back seat and pulls out a bucket for me. I want to ask her if she is an angel, but I don't have the nerve. Besides, she makes a definite point about being married; she keeps talking about needing to "get back to my husband" and at one point she asks me to take a good, close-up look at her wedding and engagement rings. Looking back on things afterwards I wasn't quite sure what to make of this encounter, but I took it as encouragement to keep praying for "my" girl.

And so I did. Then, five years later, I had another dream. The most lucid and lifelike dream that I can recall. And in that dream I saw that girl and she told me that she was an angel. I'll forgive you if at this point you think I've taken leave of my senses, but while studying my Bible trying to make heads and tails of this whole matter I became convinced that the girl I met in Florida actually was and is the spirit of Wisdom, from Proverbs chapter 8.

I'm not certain that she's eligible. I'm not certain that she's interested. I'm not certain that the Greek goddess Athena can be personally identified with the spirit of Wisdom from the Hebrew tradition. But I am certain of this much: I want to meet that girl again. And, when I do, I want to be able to ask her some questions....

So help me, I'm not making a word of this up.

So help me, I'm not making a word of this up.

Something in a similar vein happened to me once.

Alright, so I was practicing flying in one of my dreams. I used to have these dreams where I would suddenly remember how to fly from my last dream and realize that I had only forgotten when I woke up. Anyhow, I was flying, when I suddenly looked down and saw this girl with red hair watching me from her window. I flew into her house and invited her to go flying with me. She declined, and said that she already knew how. She seemed like such a real person that I just had to ask. "Am I dreaming, or are you dreaming?" She laughed and responded that actually, we probably both were dreaming. This made a lot of sense. I woke up soon after, but ever after that I wondered if there was a real person out there who had a dream she was watching some girl flying on a moonlit night.

I told the story to a friend in school one day and you probably guessed it, but she actually had a friend, back when she lived in Florida, who had the other side to my dream. Even the conversation about who was dreaming. There was no way of verifying it, but I sometimes wonder she was supposed to be my soul mate. Probably not, but the girl in my dream was pretty awesome anyhow.

Have you tried making contact in other than physical ways?

Actually, I do have an ongoing spiritual contact (for the past nine years, minus a couple months) which I believe is from her. It is light and pleasant, but definite. All I get out of it on my end are "yes" and "no" answers.

I've tried testing the limits of this contact, and I find that a) It's not direct. There can be definite interference "on the line". I have received answers which are inconsistent with Scripture and/or plain reason. So I can't follow it blindly, I must use discernment. Secondly, b) Except in VERY RARE instances, it does not provide me with information that I do not have on my own. It won't tell me whether the next card in the deck is black or red, for example. While it does help winnow out ideas, I have to come up with the ideas on my own—so if and when I am wrong (and I've been spectacularly wrong at times), I blame no one but myself.

If there is in fact something to this contact, and if consistency counts for anything, then I can say that she IS eligible, she IS interested, that she does very much want to meet me again, face to face....and that when that happens it will open up a whole new chapter—very possibly the final chapter—in the ongoing saga of the relationship between God and man.

If you are interested in this aspect of the Divine, I would recommend that you do some research on the Shekinah.  The Shekinah is alternately described as a feminine aspect of God and as the bride of God.  One of her aspects is often thought to be the spirit of wisdom that you mention.
