If I create a sacred space and do my rituals there, would that have any effect on the physical world? With my current living situation, it is really difficult for me to *just* do a ritual any time I need/want to, so I was thinking about setting up a non-physical space where I could do them.  Physically, I wouldn't be doing anything but meditating.

It can. I don't tend to practice this way, so I have little experience in this area, although it is an often used technique. There are probably others here who can offer more insight than this.

In my experience, setting up a space (circle or what) doesn't have any physical effect on the world, except for perhaps an energetic effect. But then, to me, every space is sacred; acknowledging the space is about all I do. I don't actually set up anything.

I think that setting up a non-physical space would be just fine; in fact, I know several folks who prefer it to physical space because, on the non-physical plane, any supplies you need are on hand.

I think it depends on what kind of effect you are talking about.  I did rituals in imagined space for years out of necessity and do them physically now.  I have found no difference in effect, except for things to do with 'me' personally, like tiredness.  I don't do a lot of devotional rituals so I don't know what effects are looked for, but I have found that full-meal-deal spells tend to work the same whether done mentally or physically, and celebratory rituals still change/augment the feel of my home.

There are a few things that I feel work better done mentally, like walking the walls (of my wards) - I can go over every inch of my borders mentally where physically I would have to be wading in water or climbing over bushes (not good when one of your borders is a raspberry bramble).  It is important to have very clear visualization if you're talking magic, though.  I've done a few spells where a patch of the surroundings has been designated as 'whatever is supposed to be there', but it is a fuzzy and incomplete way to do things.
