Rare dig bids to unearth secrets of Britain's Stonehenge

Quote
Scientists are hoping that a new technology will help them to make a breakthrough during a major excavation at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which looms over Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire.

"This excavation is the first opportunity to bring the power of modern scientific archaeology to bear on a problem that has taxed the minds of travellers and archaeologists since medieval times," said Timothy Darvill, head of Bournemouth University's archaeology department, one of the dig's leaders.

I'm really looking forward to this.  I hope the program is broadcast in the US!

It looks good.  Trouble is, it loads so slow on my machine.  Will have to look at the whole set later.

I am very sorry to hear that.  Unfortunately there are all to many who have no respect for cultural and historical material.

I'm not sure if the show is related but the National Geographic Channel is airing Stonehenge Decoded on Sunday, June 1st @ 9pm.

I am going to try and see it, if I don't forget or the TV monopolized.  That title sounds familiar.  Im not sure if there was a book by that name some time ago.

I started to and then realized it was two hours long and had a couple other things to do.  Since I was already recording it I didn't worry about it.  Sadly, I accidently taped over it Sad  I've seen it advertised a couple of other times on the same network I just haven't been in a position to either watch or record it.  I'll get around to it eventually.

From what I saw it bore further watching if for nothing else than a different viewpoint to mull over.  The lead archeologist is focussing on the areas around Stonehenge rather then the circle itself in order to better understand the people who may have created site.

I'm hoping it turns up on one of the main UK channels as I don't have satellite or cable.
