It can be almost impossible to tell from a picture, especially if the wand was stained and the grain is hard to make out. Even the quality and lighting of the photo can change appearances. But yeah, the link doesn't work right.  I assume you have to be a member already.

Hmm.. I'm not sure, but from the appearance of the smooth, creamy colored bark, it might be Sycamore, AKA Buttonwood.  Hard to tell though. The leaves don't look quite right for Sycamore, but OTOH, there are variations in the species;  I'm not a tree expert either.
On second thought, I doubt it's Sycamore.

A close up of the bark might be helpful (unless someone recognizes those leaves straight off)

Gah.  I suck at semi-tropicals and tropicals.  Any idea what it looks like other times of the year (flowers/fruit, etc.)?  And you're in Texas, right?  How big is the tree?  Is it deciduous (loses its leaves) or evergreen?

They're not sycamore leaves.  Sycamore leaves are big and broad and sort of papery.  While there will be some variation in species, I can't imagine there would be quite that much.  That would also have to be an awfully young sycamore, I think, to be that small.

So you'd rather diminish the tree you got the wand from? Smiley

It looks like a crepe myrtle to me.  An older one.

Does it bloom white or pink with small confetti like flowers in the spring, and form seeds at the tips of the branches about the size of miniature acorn that split open in the fall?

I second this opinion.  I know because my grandmother has crepe myrtles and I use to climb them as a kid.
