Have bought a new deck (Robin Wood) and want to try it out.

Do you use any sort of 'welcome ritual' or meditation to attune yourself to a new magical tool and attune the tool to you? I guess it matters if you have a receptive tool like cards or something you actively works magic with, but well what do you do?

I'm thinking on smudging the deck shortly, though it is fully new. More for the reason to give it my flavor than for cleansing it.

I just kept my new runes under my pillow overnight for a week or two and carried them around with me during the day.

I heard some people do this with Tarot cards.   I also heard that some people leave them on a windowsill for a full lunar cycle (preferably a windowsill that gets a good amount of moonlight).

Hey I just got MY Robin Wood deck today!!!

I think I'll smudge mine as well, because I do that with EVERYTHING (plus, it has that plastic-y 'new card smell'). I think I'll probably do some hmm...'energy attunement'? with it just to make it 'mine'.

Me too, and I burn incense every other day. I just love the atmosphere it creates.

LOL, I have only one room, that reduces the amount of money I spend on incense. (Though I love expensieve Japanese incense.)

I love cheap Japanese incense. Morning Star, 50 sticks for $2.50. Cheesy

I slept with my new deck under my pillow for about 2 or 3 weeks. It really did seem to attune to my energies quicker that way. I now keep it on my bed side table with all my day to day stuff, so it keeps getting bombarded by my energies all day.

I generally consecrate and often cleanse my new magical tools.  (I won't cleanse a tool I made myself after making it, because in that case the making is part of charging it.  I might cleanse the materials before making it, though.)

I've done rituals to consecrate each of my tarot decks.  Generally it involves cleansing with incense and also rubbing the deck with mugwort to charge it for divination.  Then I shuffle the deck and do a "what can I learn from this deck?" reading - generally a three card spread, although at least once more have been involved.  (I got this idea from *somewhere*, but I honestly don't know where.)  I also will sometimes sleep with the deck by my pillow.  (Under it ends up looking a bit like the Princess and the Pea, alas.)

Now this is interesting, so you ask the deck about your relationship to it! I might try that, thanks.
