What are Site Assistants?

Site Assistants are volunteers who work on various TC "site projects" for a few hours each week. TC will soon have a wide variety of "site projects" that depend solely on volunteers to accomplish. With some of these will involve tasks on our message board, many will involve working on our web site in various ways.

Site Assistants are not staff members and do not have any type of moderator authority on The Cauldron's message board. Site Assistants working on some projects may have limited authority over other members participating in the project (e.g. Chat Moderators are Site Assistants working on our Chat Project and have the authority to enforce rules in chats; Editors might have the authority to edit member contributions to their project, etc.) If you are looking for power rather than work, volunteering to be a Site Assistant is not a road to immediate power.

Duties of Site Assistants

Site Assistants will:

1) Be able to work on Projects independently, reporting to a staff member supervisor on progress regularly -- generally a message saying what you have done in the last week posted to your project's report thread in the private Assistant's Lounge board. You will be expected to work on your project(s) at least four hours a week.

2) Have a "Site Assistant" title added to their user info that appears next to posts so that other members know that they are helping with Cauldron Projects.

3) Successful Site Assistants may become Senior Assistants leading a project team. New staff members will generally be selected from Site Assistants.

4) Site Assistants will have access to a private "Assistant's Lounge" board where projects can be discussed, plans made, and needed skills taught.

5) Be expected to not only follow the rules of the message board, but set a good example for other members. Like members of Cauldron Staff, Site Assistants will be held to a slightly higher standard of behavior.

Site Assistant Qualifications

The requirements to be a Site Assistant are simple:

1) Be willing and able to regularly do the work for which you are volunteering without having to be constantly reminded of it.

2) Be a Full Member of the message board (exceptions can be made for members too young to qualify for full membership).

3) Volunteer for a specific project or projects. Send a PM to the project leader explaining what you could do to help. The Project Leader will get in touch with you.

4) Don't be a troublemaker. If the Hosts or Senior Staff consider you a pain to deal with, you are unlikely to be selected.

Becoming A Site Assistant

You can volunteer to work on one of the projects listed in other threads on this board. If you are accepted, you will become a Site Assistant. You can't just volunteer to be a Site Assistant in general. You have to volunteer to work on a specific project.
