I just finished watching the first Red Sox game of the season ... and now I wish I hadn't.  I had a few cancelled classes today, so I watched the game in the teachers room, and let's just say they got exposed to some new English colloquialisms.  Tongue

There have got to be a few more baseball fans here on TC.  What teams are we following?  Any high hopes for this season?

Poor Schill.  Here's hoping that whatever was throwing him off (walk in a tying run?  WTF, Schill?  The year or so before you joined us you had more wins than walks!) clears up soonest.  (I caught a bit of the game in chat with a friend who had EEI on the radio, and a few minutes of it when we were in the packie picking up some cider.)

Er, yeah.  I mentioned in the writing thread that my one publication credit was writing about the Red Sox, right?

Oh, yes, I did read that.  Apparently my memory function is inversely proportional to our baserunning performance.  Tongue  Thanks for reminding me, I meant to put that book on my to-read list.

It's a great book, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a contributor -- I love folklore collections, and that's basically what it's trying to be, for the most part.

At least you're not a Yankees fan.   Grin  And I don't pity you anyway, you have crab cakes.

I can't believe there's only 3 fans on the whole board!  Undecided

To be honest, I don't really follow the big teams much anymore. But here in town we finally got another minor team into our stadium, and it's been awesome Grin

The kids joined their kids' club, where they got a free shirt, card, etc. and get into all the games free. They're really getting into it, and it's reminding me how much I use to enjoy going to a game!

I never really cared for watching on tv or listening/playing it on the radio (I was a dj for a few years and had to fight to stay awake during broadcasts on Sundays for the Tigers), but nothing beats it in person.

GO REDFISH!!!!!

Blessed Be...Serenah

I've been a Yankee fan since I was a little kid. I'll be 43 this year, so at least 35 years. I like baseball in general though and it's about the only big league sport I ever really watch. I coached little league for several years when my son was pitching.

Oh, and you'll like this, My son is also a big Yankee fan - His bedroom walls are white with blue pinstripes. One year, his little league team was the Red Sox and him and I (as the manager) had to wear Boston hats all spring while we played Tongue

Us baseball fans seem to be a minority on this board, so I think we can make an exception and allow Yankees fans, especially as you're about 10 games behind in the East right now...  Cheesy  Kidding, of course.  My family's actually split evenly between Sox and Yankees fans (Western MA gets New York TV), so I don't seriously go in for the "Yankees Suck" nonsense, I just make a few good-natured pokes at them occasionally.

Forgot the second half of my post...

What happened to the uniforms after that season?  Wink  It might have been worse though.  In my hometown, the teams were named after their sponsor, so you could end up playing for Bob's Tavern or something like that.  Looks great on an eleven-year-old.

Honestly, the Yankees have never bothered me.  (Setian philosophy, of a sort: you're only as strong as your rival proves you are.)

Oakland, now.  With me and Oakland, it's personal.
