"Vatican bans Dan Brown film Angels & Demons from Rome churches"

Varican City - The Vatican has banned the makers of Angels & Demons, the latest Dan Brown thriller to be filmed, from shooting scenes not only in the Vatican but in any church in Rome on the ground that it is "an offence against God" and "wounds common religious feelings".

I doubt the JCI God is offended as I credit him with enough intelligence to tell documentaries from action films.

I suspect that if the JCI God was as easily offended as folks seem to think, we would all be smoking puddles from the latest lightning bolt.

I knew Mr. Brown took some liberties, but according to the article if one tried to follow the story in Rome, s/he would become hopelessly lost.  I enjoyed reading it, but I was supposing there was some basis on fact.

But of course, we are not.  Which says either the JCI guy doesn't give a good damn, or that  he is out of lightening bolts, or (worse) that he never HAD lightening bolts.

Or, just maybe, it is the uptight clergy fearing that the "faithful" will read a silly novel and get an independent idea or two.  Honestly, when Church leadership acts like a petulant 13 year old.....it makes more than my eyes roll.

All the reasons why that's silly taken for granted, I can still see why people might want to say "you're showing us in a bad light - ain't no WAY we're gonna support you!"

I think their argument is silly, but I can see their point.

If they were saying that, I could understand it. But no, we talk about fiction as if it were fact and even make God offended for good measure.

as I said - I can appreciate why they wouldn't want to do it, but their argument sucks. Cheesy

If they were filming a church critical documentary, I'd roll my eyes, but I can't blame them for shutting out that kind of silly entertainment. Isn't a church supposed to be sacred? Don't get me wrong, I'm not Catholic, but imagine a Pagan temple and some movie company wanted to shot pictures there featuring a 101 horror satanic mass baby sacrifice...

I thought this was funny.  After the first Dan Brown movie, the Catholic church got a ton of press.  Its like the "no press is bad press" thing, ya know?  At this point, the Church needs all the help it can get!
