Please share any fun camping stories or pics here.

We've gone camping a few times in the last few weeks, and had a great time, despite the rain and raccoon invasion at the second campground.  These were seriously the boldest raccoons I have ever seen.  They were approaching campsites well before dark, and attempting to steal things that weren't even food, such as our plastic bucket full of kindling.  I threw rocks and yelled at them, and they just looked at me quizzically like "Why are you doing that?" and continued approaching the picnic tables.  They stole an entire batch of biscuits and broke 3 eggs when I had to take my son to the restroom.  Luckily my sister brought our dog when she came to join us and that put an end to the raccoons in the campground.  He also successfully frightened off the drunken idiots trying to steal our firewood in the middle of the night, so I guess Rainbow earned his keep this week.  I forgot the camera, so we don't have any pics of the raccoon trip, but I do have some very cute pics of my little Boo of our trip earlier in June:

Aww, what a cutie.

I've plans to go up to Mackinac Island this weekend (we'll be camping at a nearby state park).  If we don't get rained out I'll be sure to share.

very cute! Here are our camping pix, except that we spent most of our camping time in Monterey in a Best Western room, b/c of the fires in Big Sur Sad

but here are some pix from Los Lobos Marine Reserve, Near Carmel CA

I hope we will have time to go up north later in the summer.

We had a skunk come visit us in Big Sur one night...forgot to put the garbage up, duh. Fortunately, he only made a mess, and moved on. Also had some crows come and assess the garbabe, while we were out one afternoon, and many lovely Stellar's Jays. Jays have been following me around lately.

I haven't been camping since I was a teen, so all of my stories are very old. Smiley

With your allergies and strong dislike of heat/humidity, I'm not too surprised.  Smiley

We have a pop-up camper and aside from a weekend here and there, we usually go for a full week once per summer. The camper has a screen room that attaches to the awning and a skirt that covers the area between the ground and the bottom of the camper that we only use during the long trips.

There had been a couple of little kittens running around on and off all day that we were unable to get near. We tried luring them with food, but they would run off when we tried to get close to them as they ate the goodies.

That night, just after seeing one of the kittens, Karen and I were sitting in the screen room and saw the partially filled garbage bag attempting to be pulled under the skirt and under the camper.

This time I was ready to catch me a kitten. I got down on my hands and knees and ever so stealthy crawled over to the garbage bag. lying on my stomach with the trailer skirt inches from my face, I quickly flipped up the skirt and reached out to grab the kitten only to find out I was nearly nose to nose with a skunk.  Grin

I yelled, dropped the skirt, and spent the rest of the night watching my wife cry with laughter.

Camping out in the mountains of West Texas wasn't so bad. 100 degrees or so during the day, but very low humidity (which means I can stay functional) and semi-cool nights.  At the time, there wasn't as much there I was allergic to.  Central Texas and East Texas weren't as much fun.
