From the Boston Globe:

Fla. shelter fire kills dozens of cats

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --A fire gutted the local Humane Society headquarters, killing dozens of animals including nearly all of the cats in the building, authorities said.

Up to 200 animals were in the facility, but it could take days to account for all the animals and tally the dead, Humane Society Executive Director Leona Sheddan said.

I don't know why I always click on these headlines; I just depress myself.  But I think a lot of little cat and dog spirits could use a good thought now.  What a terrible way to go.  Cry

From the Boston Globe:

How awful. I do think prayers are appropriate.

Man, I don't know why I look either. I'll pray for them. I've got to stop looking at this stuff. I managed not to earlier today, but only because SO had already viewed it (some video on a magazine website), and said that it was cruel and I wouldn't want to watch it. There was no bloody warning on that one though, I could have looked at it by accident, and I probably would have.

Off topic a little, but I have been looking for somewhere to do some on-site volunteer work recently (have decided on rspca), and clicked on a google link about the Cat protection society of Victoria (Australia). It was actually an article from The Age newspaper, and I ended up howling my eyes out in front of the pc. I really believe in helping animals, but I couldn't volunteer there, it'd break my heart. They said the average life for a volunteer at the cpsv was six months. It was too heartbreaking. And yet, I just had to click on this topic. Geez. I'm my own worst enemy I swear.
